Contraception

I'm on cerazette (mini pill). First time periods stopped completely. This time its been 11 months and they are all over the place. Cycle is anything from 36-53 days although usually around 46 days. Was bleeding for about 2 days and thought they would stop however this is now 10 days of bleeding.

I'm fed up. It keeps ruining weekends away as I plan around then bam, it turns up unexpectedly or lasts a lot longer than normal. Next one is now due at a special time.

I had a migraine once so that rules out the combination pill and patch. I don't want the injection and definitely don't want a coil, which they keep pushing. Is the implant more likely to stop my periods? And will I likely get the same side effects? Suffering with acne, sore boobs and mood swings on this bloody thing and I've had enough.

DP and I are going to get one of us sorted permanently, but this will take time so I want to sort something else for now. Neither of us want to use condoms.

You had one migraine, so you can't use the combined pill? really? I'm amazed you found out the cause so quickly, most people have a long hard journey to find what causes their headaches.

Mirena isn't that bad, honestly, and it dies stop your periods if that's what you want. Or you could try the cap, that does still exist, doesn't it?

PieCannon · 20/11/2019 20:31

Why don't you want a coil? Most women have less, or no, bleeding with Mirena. If you want to get your periods under control, and the combined pill isn't an option, it's your only good choice really.

And no, many women have spotting and erratic periods with the implant.

The GP and nurse refuse to let me have the combined pill on the basis of a single migraine. I think it's ridiculous tbh.

I don't want the coil. I need to explain my reasons. And the nurse said some women have no periods, not all.

I mean I don't need to explain my reasons. Women can get erratic bleeding on that too. The bleeding I get now is very very light, almost not even worth it, but 10 days of it and no idea when it will turn up.

I know you said you’re not keen but condoms aren’t that bad. No way on earth I’d ever get the coil, hideous idea and I’m done with taking chemicals every day so while DH is happy to have the snip but we’re not quite there yet we’re using condoms.

HurtandAnnoyed · 21/11/2019 08:09

Neither DP nor I want to use condoms. I mean, he would if I pushed it but I don't want the faff either. I'd rather just have something sorted.

Have you tried the depo-provera injection? That stopped my periods where cerezette didn't

PieCannon · 21/11/2019 09:36

Was it a migraine with aura? If so, they're quite right - the combined pill massively increases stroke risk in women who have had migraine with aura.

Obviously you don't need to explain yourself to me. I'm just some Internet randomer. But your doctors and nurses will be limited in what they can suggest if the combined Pill is off-limits and you're not keen on a Mirena, and you're keen to avoid spotting.

If you feel your GP is refusing to prescribe the combined Pill inappropriately, why not try a family planning clinic?

Hope you get sorted soon.

"Was it a migraine with aura? If so, they're quite right - the combined pill massively increases stroke risk in women who have had migraine with aura."

Ah, yes it was. I was taken off the combined pill straight away after this. That makes sense then as I never really did understand why 1 migraine = no combined contraception ever.

I did consider the injection but from researching, it seems inevitable that there will be weight gain.

Coil is more to do with the process of inserting it and having it removed. Plus I've also read up on that and I definitely won't be checking for strings and I've read far too many stories of it having moved.

I've got an appointment next week with the nurse so I'll discuss it all then. Just wish getting sterilised meant no periods too as I'd be up for that then wouldn't have this issue!
