Despite almost 20 yrs on MN, I don't know what category this would fall into.

I found this in DD's bedroom (she's 15 - DC5 if you include XH's grown up DC as well as our shared DC). She says they are herbal energy pills, and that one of her friends (who boards at her school) bought them at home in Russia and gave them to her. I am not inclined to believe this entirely, but am keeping my cool until I have done some digging. I told XH I would post here to see if anyone has any ideas.

He has been trawling round the local pharmacies today with the evidence, to no avail.

Can anyone shed any light on this, please? Needless to say, I'm not happy.

Any markings on the pills, like numbers or letters?

Do you have a Google Lens enabled device?

Findumdum1 · 19/11/2019 23:55

Well its some kind of Russian prescription drug as its in a pop packet and has Russian writing on the back.

Illegal drugs dont come like that. Which is not to say its entirely wholesome of course. I'd guess its something like prescription speed/amphetamine for staying awake/weight loss or caffeine tablets. Shes only taken one which is good. I think all prescription drugs have a universal id code in the tablets so a pharmacist should be able to id it?

gamerchick · 19/11/2019 23:56

Call her bluff. Pop one out in front of her and say 'well if they're herbal, let's have a shot then'.

Don't swallow. See what she does.

Foslady · 19/11/2019 23:56

Google translate lends over the back of the pack to see if anything comes up

Scribblescribbles · 20/11/2019 00:00

Is there anyone you know/Google it who could translate the Russian on there? Have the tablets themselves got any symbols on that could help?

JoanieCash · 20/11/2019 00:00

There’s a couple of services that I think will test drugs. One is WEDINOS which is trying to build up a picture of scale of substance abuse around country. You could email first to see if they’d check it (especially if you’re suspicious of abuse). They might be able to give you a steer.

VanyaHargreeves · 20/11/2019 00:00

I'm wondering if they are a "smart drug" Google suggests this is a thing but I'm struggling to match the letters.

Jellybean100 · 20/11/2019 00:02

Similar size to codeine. Difficult with the language being so different

Jellybean100 · 20/11/2019 00:09

On second thoughts it’s probably something like Adderall which apparently is being abused left right and centre to help students concentrate

Findumdum1 · 20/11/2019 00:13

yeah I reckon Russian performance enhancing drug. Hope she's not feeling under too much pressure at school.

ViciousJackdaw · 20/11/2019 00:15

Just because they are in a pop packet does not automatically mean they are prescription-only drugs.

Adderall is jumping the gun slightly - there's every chance that they are just a Russian version of Pro-Plus.

I would take one out of the pack and look for numbers/other identifying marks.

Repost this thread with the title 'Russian language help needed please'

runoutofnamechanges · 20/11/2019 00:34

The small writing says, таблетки обычные, which means conventional tablets but there isn't enough of the name/brand to be able to read/identify it.

greenlobster · 20/11/2019 00:36

I reckon it's probably this stuff www.noangina.com/product-page/buy-glycine
Which is indeed a 'herbal' energy pill - well an amino acid - which supposedly increases alertness and probably actually does approximately bugger all.

TheHobbitMum · 20/11/2019 00:38

I work with a Russian lady, I'll show her the picture tomorrow and see if she knows what these pills are and I'll update here Smile

NormaBean · 20/11/2019 00:51

The larger writing, does it say ГЛИН ?

If so, I think that means clay.

QueenOfOversharing · 20/11/2019 01:02

Just as well I actually read the OP & other PPs. I thought you just needed to transpose the image & it was all back to front. I'll just go back to sleep... ConfusedBlush

runoutofnamechanges · 20/11/2019 01:05

greenlobster could have it!

The medium sized text on the packet, биотики Biotiki, is the brand name on the product she found or it could also be part of the word for antibiotics. And the second word in large print (you have the first 3 and last 2 letters) could well be глицин, glycine.

runoutofnamechanges · 20/11/2019 01:20

Actually, greenlobster does have it... I've zoomed in and when you piece together all the bits of the two words in small text, it says sublingual tablets, not conventional, the same as the link greenlobster she posted.

Your DD was telling the truth, it's a dietary supplement Smile

Foslady · 20/11/2019 08:29

And this is why I love Mumsnet!

DrugWorried · 20/11/2019 09:06

Ohhh.... Thank you all so much. I knew MN would be able to help. Smile

I was of course very strongly tempted to have a meltdown about it all, so am glad I didn't.
