What gift would you like if you had a 10-week old baby?

Going to see a friend on Friday with her new(ish) baby who I'll be meeting for the first time. I want to take a little gift but wondering what to get.

Something for baby - the obvious thing would be clothes, but do people end up with too many of these?! If you did get given clothes, what size would you want? 3-6 months or a bit older?

Would also like to get a little something for mum, but can't really remember if there was anything I'd have particularly wanted at that stage.

I'll also take a little pressie for baby's older brother, but it's easier to choose something for him!

I have a 10 week old!

At this point we have lots of 3-6 clothes from people (like you) who kindly thought ahead - but with some things missing, especially now the weather is colder. People tend to buy baby grows or outfits, so we don't have any 3-6 cardies/jumpers.

I just want chocolate and/or biscuits tbh. Grin Baby stuff makes the house feel so cluttered, there's nothing much I want, but food is always good!

That said, someone got me a little circular scarf-like thing (snood?) which is amazing because it keeps me warm without getting in baby's face!

Thanks Sundaymorning, that's helpful. It's a long time since I had a ten week old baby! 😁

I'll go with something edible for mum, then. I know she has a sweet tooth, so chocolates or biscuits would probably go down well.

Will have a look for some nice warm baby clothes!

A lovely childrens book for when baby is a bit older.
Babysocks! Mine always loses his! We keep buying them.
Maybe a lovely baby Christmas jumper?
A gift voucher from a babystore. Maybe she already has enough clothes but she can use it to buy new bibs, bottles etc. These costs can add up quite much.
And don’t forget to buy a lovely card and write a personalized message in it, I kept all of those we received after DS’s birth for him to keep as a memory when he’s older.

Thinking about a book for the baby's older brother so I might see if I can see one for baby too.

DS really loves his Christmas jumper, I think all babies should have one Grin

Nice hand cream. Clarins smells good.

When DD1 was born, my BFF bought me a 5ltr alow cooker.
I was a bit taken aback, and she said she knew I would be, BUT, 15 years later, I still have the same one,and I use it so much - it has been a godsend!
I have 3 DC now and I work, and winter time, it's just so easy!

Agree with pps. Food is a great gift. A friend sent me a muffin basket when our son was born , it was perfect for those night feeds.

A funny story , a relative of mine gave us a complicated board game for Christmas when out youngest was about 10 weeks , they then kept asking if we'd played it yet and asked why when we said no. It's still in it's wrapping. That relative has recently had a baby , we're toying with the idea of regifting to them this Christmas.

Homemade dinner and lovely cake. Check she is not dairy free.

I personally only like babies in baby grows not clothes.

DappledThings · 19/11/2019 13:05

Tuppence and Crumble starwrap and Sock-Ons.

bobstersmum · 19/11/2019 13:07

Chocolate, some nice sachets of cappuccino, miniature wine, new socks, new pj's, id have appreciated any of that!

WillowySnicket · 19/11/2019 13:09

I love the slow cooker idea!

Someone got me a "nightfeed/cluster feeding" survival kit. Insulated mug, nice coffee, biscuits, and an audible voucher. I loved it.

I would have liked either an extra boob or sleep but alas.... anyway something pampering wise is always nice (natural stuff I guess). Face masks (peel off ones), hand creams like pp said, etc. You can never have too many clothes for a baby. They go through them like nobodies business. If anything buy them the size up because babies seen to grow overnight and outgrow all their clothes in a split second!

EssentialHummus · 19/11/2019 13:14

Nice ready meals (Cook/M&S), cake, chocs, herbal tea?

KnobJockey · 19/11/2019 13:18

Yes to much bigger clothes-my 8 week old is going into 3-6 now, so 6-9/ 9-12 better. We're just at the stage where she's starting to be interested in toys, mirrors, and introducing a bedtime routine, so books would go down well too. Still mainlining chocolate to get through the energy slumps, so that and cake go down well! Or a nice bunch of flowers- you don't tend to get many after the first 3 weeks!

DappledThings · 19/11/2019 13:38

Oh I'd have hated that. They would have ended up dying and gathering dust in mouldy water and just been one more thing in the mound of new clutter that was there for the first few weeks!

strawbmilk · 19/11/2019 13:43

I would say baby grows or vests. I got given baby grows in all the sizes up to a year as my friend said just one day they just won't fit anymore. It was so true. I was so as when I opened the last pack.
Then as a PP said socks. Where do they go????

In terms of the mum food or hand cream. With a baby I never stopped washing my hands and they were constantly dry. Hand cream in a pump bottle if possible to save the 5 seconds it takes to unscrew and screw back on the lid!

Hepsibar · 19/11/2019 13:55

How about, depending how much of a control freak your friend is, doing the housework or ironing. Would she allow you to babysit whilst she went and had a spa treatment? Would you babysit or take the baby out for a walk while she had a mid afternoon nap?

Will she be going back to work, has she sorted childcare, would she like you to drive her round to different options?

Has she supplies of cards and stamps, written her thank yous ... could you help?
