Any female plumbers out there?

My DD has just graduated but has decided she doesn't want to use her degree subject. She was looking at other possibilities and is thinking about becoming a plumber. We can't see any downsides but just wondered if anyone had any experience or advice.

Mt friend is a trained plumber. All I'll say is that it is physically very tough and a cold job. She moans loads about it Sad

How about electrician?
Physically easier, less kit to haul about, "cleaner" than plumbing.

Also could lead onto a wide variety of careers , lift electrician, lighting in theatres etc

My daughter is training at the moment and will, I think, have plenty of work doing easy jobs for those who would prefer a female to come into their home.

I will get her to look at electrician. I don't know why but plumbing captured her imagination more than anything else she has considered.

Any trade like this there is such a skills shortage. Maybe look at an apprenticeship with a house building company. Most trades have potential for getting cold wet and dirty tbh but if it's your job you just get on with it. I work in construction and have done stints on very muddy sites.

I met a woman who decided not to follow a career connected to her degree and to become a plasterer instead. She said she could choose her jobs and was never not in high demand. There is also a demand from women for women tradies. It's a possible alternative to plumbing.

We use a female plumber, but she readily admits herself that she is limited to what she can do. She's pretty well built, but can't fit new boilers or radiators because they're too heavy for her to lift to fit on her own. She also struggles with other heavy things like toilets, sinks and baths when she had to carry them up/down stairs etc.

She's absolutely brilliant with other things though, such as tiling, gas appliance servicing, replacing taps and repairing leaks etc. Just that she has to do a lot of smaller jobs which also means lots of travelling between jobs, lots of going out giving quotes for small jobs etc. She's trying to build up the tiling and gas servicing as that's apparently where the money is and is something that you're DIY-er or odd job man can't do.

She doesn't want to be an electrician. It doesn't appeal to her. She's quite strong so isn't worried about that side of things.
