What is your 14 nearly 15 year old boy having for Christmas?

Ok so really stuck this year. So far the usually socks, pjs, chocolate and a couple of vouchers for JD and All Saints.

What are you buying yours?

Experiences. I’m printing vouchers to say I will pay for a list of things when he wants them:
Meal for two at local Indian restaurant on their £12 buffet deal
Cinema tickets
Ticket for the local trampoline park
Takeaway pizza x 2
Etc, easy to find stuff to suit and it is a sort of IOU so they use it throughout the year and it spread the cost.
Books
Skincare

Comefromaway · 18/11/2019 10:08

Ds is 15. He wants music equipment. Last year he had cinema vouchers, cash & tech accessories.

Themazeoflife · 18/11/2019 10:15

Oculus Quest it's the only think he actually wants.

Overseasmom100 · 18/11/2019 10:57

Great ideas thank you. @Comefromaway what music equipment? DS is really into his and was talking about something he could record his own music to

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 18/11/2019 11:01

He plays keyboard and composes/programmes patches into something called Mainstage so there is always something he wants whether its a midi controller, new pedal for his keyboard or some piece of software. He hasn't actually given me his requirements yet but he says he has them ready. Dh usually deals with it as he is musician too.

Overseasmom100 · 18/11/2019 11:13

Ah ok mine plays guitar and base plus keyboard sometimes. I need to ask him what he wants really but he changes his mind so much!

Hoolajerry · 18/11/2019 11:17

My 14 year old ds is getting:
Noise cancelling headphones
Trainers
Nice jumper
Forza 4 (to share with his bro)
Base layers (School ski trip)
Pants
Socks
books
Light magic trick thing

I have found it really hard to buy for him this year. None of it is very exciting!

Phycadelicsilhouette · 18/11/2019 11:22

My eldest is 13 nearly 14 and he’s having AirPods and a Merlin annual pass. I would never usually buy 2 such large gifts but I’m spreading the cost of the passes over 12 months interest free and I added the AirPods onto my phone contract. I also figured it would save us money on entertainment and birthday days out ect through the year too! And then he’ll have a board game, the 2020 Guinness world record book (he collects them) and a stocking.

IdiotInDisguise · 18/11/2019 11:22

My kid is a child of few but strong passions, this year he will be getting some fancy climbing shoes, and vouchers to put towards clothes/gadgets.

Last year he got a membership to a local gliding club and a driving lesson voucher.

We are not keen in stockings fillers or lots of little presents, so we just concentrate on one or two memorable gifts.

Overseasmom100 · 18/11/2019 11:35

I think an experience day or lesson of some sort would be great not sure what though.

Day in a recording studio?

Overseasmom100 · 18/11/2019 12:51

Cant find anything really that would be suitable - it;s all singing!!!

Have a look through here

TreacherousPissFlap · 19/11/2019 09:37

Similar to comefromaway , DS is having recording software. DM will share the cost as it is pricey but will definitely be used.
He will also have new slippers and some skincare products, but that's as far as I've got TBH.

ContinuityError · 19/11/2019 11:51

Cash to put towards a new phone
A couple of t-shirts
Possibly some golf shoes and golf lessons
We’ll have a day out somewhere too, or a theatre trip

MT2017 · 19/11/2019 16:38

Rugby tickets
Hoody
Lego advent calendar
Stocking fillers

Elder brother (17) is having driving lessons, younger sister (11) would like a Fitbit. Very different cost wise!

AuntyElle · 19/11/2019 16:46

When PPs say skincare, what exactly? I was thinking some The Ordinary products and/or the Green People teen skincare box: www.greenpeople.co.uk/shop/by-collection/organic-teen-products/organic-teenage-skin-care-products

But would he use it??

Overseasmom100 · 19/11/2019 16:49

Thanks some good ideas.
@TreacherousPissFlap what kind of recording software are you getting

OP posts:
CanISpeakToYourManager · 19/11/2019 17:21

We will probably get him a new camera lens as he is keen on his photography, and a voucher for a Young Drivers driving lesson... Some clothes...

We already got him a Rocketbook which he likes (like a cheap digital notebook, about £35).

TreacherousPissFlap · 19/11/2019 19:17

Hi overseas, we've been advised to buy Cubase as that's what he uses in school. For various complicated and frankly befuddling reasons we also need Cubase "platinum coated and studded with precious jewels" rather than the cheaper more basic package.
At this point DS is hoping for a career in music or sound engineering so I don't really feel it's something we can dismiss as frivolous

Comefromaway · 19/11/2019 19:53

Has he got Logic Pro Treacherous? That’s what Ds will be using in college & (hopefully) uni. He wants to study Music Tech or Electronic Music at Surrey, Guildhall or Salford!

cptartapp · 19/11/2019 19:57

New mouse, wireless keyboard and monitor.

TreacherousPissFlap · 19/11/2019 23:20

No comefromaway, I believe Cubase is the "other" option IYSWIM? They use Cubase at school and into sixth form so logically that makes the most sense so I'm told

Thankfully we have an amazing independent music warehouse place near us. DS hoodwinked DH into taking him there once and poor DH was trapped for 3 hours while DS mooched about like a child in a sweet shop.
I intend to visit there alone and look feeble Grin

Comefromaway · 20/11/2019 00:11

Ah right. Dh has used Cubase in the past but because he now teaches at musical theatre colleges (& Ds is into MT too) and the industry standard for show pit band keyboard players is Mainstage which uses Logic that’s what they have.

It’s all double Dutch to me.
