I’m constantly hungry

For the last month or so, I’ve been constantly sooooo hungry. I’ll eat a big meal and then half an hour later, I’ll be hungry again. I mean actual hunger pains, tummy grumbling etc. The last few weeks I haven’t been able to sleep properly because I’m so hungry, and then when I wake up again I have to eat ASAP.

It’s causing me to become moody when I can’t eat right away, plus losing energy, feeling nauseous and not being able to concentrate until I eat. It’s never been like this before - in fact although overweight, I’ve previously been able to go a whole day without eating. It’s also making me think about food constantly. Not even any particular food - just anything!

Anybody have any ideas what could be going on?! It’s causing me to gain weight which I really don’t need to do.

(Definitely 100% not pregnant).

How painful are your hunger pains?

I ask, because when my gallbladder/stones flares up, the only way I can explain my symptoms are really really bad hunger pains, and sharp tummy rumblings. Which is eased by eating, but then starts again within an hour.

What are you eating? If you're not having much protein you will be hungry

The more I eat the more hungry I get. If I've had a weekend of over indulging food wise then I have hunger pangs and feel excessively hungry on Monday and have to force myself to resist the urge and not snack. After a day or two my appetite goes back to normal.
Also very starchy foods make me feel like this and cause an insulin surge which in turn then makes me feel more hungry.
Obviously this is just me, but I would have a coupe of days of resisting the urge to eat too much and cut down on starch and increase the protein content of your meal to see if this helps.
Alcohol doesn't help - having too much to drink makes me crave food (always the starchy stuff) so I would suggest cutting back on alcohol as well if you haven't already.

I can't offer any medical advice or ideas as to what's going on, but I can potentially help with the weight gain. I sometimes have days where I'm ravenous and nothing is doing the trick, so I usually use those days to get a load of vitamins and good stuff in me. If you're hungry and eating a lot, then it may as well be a lot of veg and protein with some fruit, as well as some fibre - it may help with the hunger as well, but at the very least you'll know that you're getting some extra nutrients in you. Good luck!

Have you started any medication recently? Increased appetite can be a side effect for some.

It's no harm to go to the GP and get checked out.

What are you actually eating?
