Clothing clearout again

I wish I could be more ruthless in getting rid of clothes!

I keep worrying I'll regret getting rid of something. Especially since I've gained a load of weight and keep thinking, but what if I could fit into this again one day?

I love the idea of getting rid of piles of clothes and I've always got things slowly selling on EBay, but I only manage a few at a time.

First world problems etc.

I tried selling my stuff I've gone from a 10 to a 14 but I've been harsh all my faves gone I'm gutted but it had to be done

Missed out part of that try again! I tried to sell it but it was stopping me clearing more crap out so I put it in the clothes bank there is a company who buys decent brands with a bag system but again it takes time I've found it easier to pack on a sunday charity bin on a Monday (there is one where I park for the kids school,)

The way I learned to be ruthless was trying everything on. If it doesn’t fit it goes. Plain n simple, most things can be rebought if you did go back down a couple of sizes.. shops aren’t going to stop selling jeans tomorrow, you might also not be the same shape after shrinking so it might never look good. Eventually you get pissed off trying on things that don’t fit.

Our local council collect textiles with the recycling weekly which makes it easier too.. saves hanging onto the bag and thinking about that jumper you love. Once it’s gone it’s gone, eBay was always my down fall.. if it wasn’t selling it just worked it’s way back into the wardrobe.

Think of how easy it’d be to get ready knowing everything looks nice and fits you. Not faffing trying things or wearing the same combo for ages.

Re things being bought again if I lose weight, I'm never quite sure about it as clothes are of such low quality these days. It's hard to get decent clothes in any size, and it's even harder to get quality petite clothing. I'm thinking some things might not be so easy to replace.

Unless something is a timeless classic it will likely be out of fashion and very dated. I do agree on the quality thing - I either have stuff that's 15 years old or really new as nothing from the intervening period has lasted.

BarbaraofSeville · 18/11/2019 09:48

I agree with you. I have several pairs of jeans that I'm about a stone too heavy for, but I'm hanging on to them because very few trousers are the right shape for me and if I do lose weight, I don't want to have to start again looking for clothes that fit, those who always say 'just throw it out, you'll want to go out and buy more clothes, obviously don't see clothes shopping as a frustrating chore and have never tried on endless items, only to find that they're made for someone a completely different shape to what they are, even if the clothes are apparently the right size.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 18/11/2019 09:56

I do a clear out every few months, you feel great afterwards.Just be really honest as to whether you really do wear the items or if you are just kidding yourself. It creates more space to buy more too :)

PurpleFrames · 18/11/2019 09:57

Have you tried the app Olio? Although you don't get money for your items people come to your house and pick them up so it's so much less effort if you're not needing the cash

randomsabreuse · 18/11/2019 10:00

I have found my shape has changed as I've got older too - stuff fits wrong in different ways!

SamBeckett · 18/11/2019 10:05

You can take clothes to H&M and get a £5 voucher to spend in store if you spend over £30 .
I don't know how long to vouchers have on them but you may be able to use them to buy Xmas gifts or save them for yourself when you have got to your ideal weight.

cakeandchampagne · 18/11/2019 10:09

If you have the space, maybe you could keep one box of a few of your best quality favorites for a while.
