Help me choose a gift for a 15 year old boy.

In my workplace we have been asked to buy a gift for a child this Christmas.
There are different age groups and I have picked a 15 year old to buy for as the older children tend to be less popular.
As this will probably be the only gift they receive we’ve been asked to spend £40.
We can’t buy anything that requires batteries or subscriptions. Obviously I don’t know their size so items of clothing are out.
Please help with some suggestions O wise Mumsnetters.
Maybe you have a 15 year old who could help?

What is the background of the child? Here/abroad, in family home or orphanage, at school or not etc?

Watching for ideas as I've got a 16-17 year old boy to buy for. We're allowed to do vouchers if they're for an experience ie cinema, bowling, trampoline park so I'm going to get something like that and then some other bits. Apparently cinema vouchers are popular with the older ones as it gives them the chance to join in with friends and I'll put enough on it to cover tickets and some snacks.

Are vouchers allowed? If so I'd do half for cinema and half for nandos

Lord I don’t have a lot of information. It’s local families who just can’t afford to provide presents because of their circumstances.
We were just given a list of 40 children, their age and M or F.

I think that's too young.

LuluBellaBlue · 17/11/2019 18:58

I’d say vouchers, either cinema, Nando’s, topman.
Buying for that age range and male is super hard even if you know them!

RomaineCalm · 17/11/2019 18:59

How about some headphones, an Amazon voucher, bright socks, set of deodorant/body wash from Boots (who usually have some 'younger' brands).

EnglishRose1320 · 17/11/2019 18:59

I think if you are allowed vouchers I'd give a cinema voucher for £20
Then do a little gift box with maybe a big bar of chocolate, something fun but not too young- stress ball/foldable frisbee and maybe a branded beanie hat- size doesn't matter so much for a hat.

Roselilly36 · 17/11/2019 19:00

I have a 16 yr old son, he likes aftershave, headphones, chocolate, money, nice dressing gown.

RedskyToNight · 17/11/2019 19:02

I have a 15 year old boy and would struggle to find anything he'd like that would fit your brief.

So I'd suggest vouchers - have you got a VR place near you? That might be something a bit out of the ordinary.

GoodMorningSunshine · 17/11/2019 19:03

This is a lovely idea.

I’d say some wireless headphones (Tesco do some for £20)

Some aftershave

Chocolate

GoodMorningSunshine · 17/11/2019 19:04

Or in hindsight what if they didn’t have anything to listen on.

I’d go for a branded rucksack, like ellesse/Nike/Adidas

VioletCharlotte · 17/11/2019 19:05

I have teenage boys. I would buy white Nike socks, body spray and shower gel (Lynx is always popular!), a mug, fluffy dressing gown (Primark), chocolate, sweets, Amazon voucher.

BackforGood · 17/11/2019 19:05

Cinema vouchers but wrapped up around a giant bag of popcorn / chocolates.

The only thing with cinema vouchers, of course is if they live where they can get to that cinema - you don't want to give them something they can't then use.

Mine all still loved things like selection box at that age - I realise that doesn't cost much, but it is still great to receive.

Other things are really difficult without knowing the person

dementedma · 17/11/2019 19:08

Gift card for Costa or Nando’s?
Hoody from Jack Wills, Side men
Wireless headphones
Smellies by David Beckham. Actually very nice
A beanie, cool belt
Huge bar of chocolate/jellybeans/M&Ms
Big bag of popcorn

Atalune · 17/11/2019 19:09

Nike backpack
TK Maxx for some branded socks
Chocolate
Chillys (copy) water bottle- all the big supermarkets have them now.
Lynx
Aftershave
Snood- Zara have nice ones in the men’s dept
vouchers for Nando’s or similar If nearby

OhMsBeliever · 17/11/2019 19:10

Mine always like socks and chocolates. Headphones are a great idea, I'm adding them to the list for my lot!

Atalune · 17/11/2019 19:10

Urban outfitters do great beanies

Bigearringsbigsmile · 17/11/2019 19:16

I would buy something like this

www.boots.com/superdry-sport-washbag-travel-series-gift-set-10230528

www.prezzybox.com/instant-air-hockey.aspx
Some chocolate
Maybe some sports socks

A magazine like 442 or something

You can make the money stretch so he has more to open

BangersNmashNgravy · 17/11/2019 19:18

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to reply. Lots of great suggestions. I will come back and let you know what I’ve bought.

Hat and scarf set
Chocolates or haribo
Wallet - tkmaxx do some nice ones
Ted Baker shower gel set
Bulldog skincare range

Hurdygurdy24 · 17/11/2019 19:22

Headphones are an awful idea.

What if the kid has nothing to connect them to, no music subscription, no data allowance etc

wildhairdontcare · 17/11/2019 19:23

Fragrance direct have great aftershave deals.
This would help you to maximise the budget, it can't be easy for teenagers in this position.

I would order this and add a £10 cinema voucher and a £15 Topman voucher.
