How different are your children?

In terms of personality/behaviour. Currently pregnant with DC2 and I’m spending a lot of time wondering if they will be similar to DC1 or completely different.
So just interested to hear some anecdotal info about the differences between your DC!

wheresmyhairytoe · 17/11/2019 15:45

Mine are complete opposites.
DS is autistic, hates people and new experiences. DD is vivacious, popular and scarily confident. They couldn't be more different.

RebornFlame · 17/11/2019 15:49

So different in many ways and similar in others. My eldest is also on the spectrum but ADHD and never stayed still to even glance at a screen and always just went as far as he could in any setting (park, nursery etc). My little one clings to me in new situations and is as chilled and lazy as I am! He is also very obviously NT. I love both their differences and think they complement each other

Babyroobs · 17/11/2019 15:49

I have 4 teenagers and they are all different. Eldest son is very confident, nothing phases him, rather impulsive and shocking with money, second son slightly younger is less confident, rarely spends money but lovely outgoing personality, lots of friends etc, third son very introvert, rarely goes out, doesn't interact much with family, he is the one I worry abut most. Youngest child ( only girl ) is typical younger child, thinks the world revolves around her, quite demanding of our time and attention but lovely personality, outgoing and hardworking.

Chalk and cheese! 1st is quiet, measured, academic, wildly creative, 2nd is live wire, kind, sociable, impulsive, perfectionist, and 3rd demanding, loving, loyal, organised, scarily clever! Amazingly, they mostly get on like a house on fire.

Yellowredpurple · 17/11/2019 16:03

This is slightly terrifying 😂 fear of the unknown! How were they as sleepers? My DD has always been a great sleeper and I worry I’m in for a whole new world with this one

OP posts:
Skinnychip · 17/11/2019 16:11

Mine are like chalk and cheese. DC1 very quiet, shy, studious, creative, quite a homebody, dislikes all sports (watching and participating)
DC2 like a whirlwind going through the house, always on the move, if its quiet expect trouble, loves being outside and trying sports.
DC1 is incredibly fussy and would graze on crap snacks all day
DC2 not fussy, would go all day without eating and then eat 4 portions of dinner.
Dc1 money burns a hole in their pocket
Dc2 bores us with gives daily updates on the contents of their piggy bank to the nearest penny.

Skinnychip · 17/11/2019 16:12

DC 1 was a rubbish sleeper, DC2 was much better. ....still no predictabilty

abigailsnan · 17/11/2019 16:14

Don't talk to me about sleeping !!
My first a daughter was perfect slept between 4/6hrs then straight through from 4 mths, ideal she was so calm and easy to manage.
My second a boy never slept more than 2 hrs at a time until he was 2yrs old the only way I could get sleep was to put him in his pram after taking DD to school and walking him to my sisters and then crash at hers for a few hours,he just changed overnight so much so me and OH still woke up every couple of hours for ages after.
My third a boy was a delight from the moment he was born I had to wake him for for feeds and changes he can still sleep the clock around now at 34.
I must say all have turned out nice kids with nice wife's and one ex-OH.

tomatosoup4 · 17/11/2019 16:16

Complete opposites.
Dd5 is independent, caring, bright and shy to some degree, but she hates change and likes routine. Is very girly and loves dressing up. Hates jeans, legging, trousers and wants to be dressed in skirts or dresses every day.

Dd3 is a whooooooollleee different kettle of fish. She's boisterous, mischievous, funny, very confident, laid back and fears nothing. Hates dresses or looking pretty screams YUCK at anything remotely girly. Loves nothing more than warm comfy clothes with wellies Confused

tomatosoup4 · 17/11/2019 16:18

Oh and dd5 is and excellent sleeper and has been since she was 13 months old. Dd3 woke every damn night multiply time (and sometimes still does) until she was 2.5

DelurkingAJ · 17/11/2019 16:19

Very very different...to the extent that nursery always say how surprised they are...DS1 is amazing at many things and awful at others, DS2 is rounded.

Neither sleeps well. 7 years and counting since a reliable unbroken night!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/11/2019 16:21

Opposites in many ways, similar in many. People struggle to tell them apart if they aren't standing right next to each other or they are only expecting one to be there.
DD1 is quietly confident and very practical. Doesn't show fear unless it's films- hates the cinema. But climbing, sports etc- no fear. Endurance of a mountain goat- climbed Snowden at 3yo. Hardworker- but is likely dyslexic and struggles at school
DD2 is loud, excitable and makes her presence felt everywhere. Tendency to laziness if she thinks she can get away with. Appears more academically able but doesn't try.

SallyWD · 17/11/2019 16:28

Dc1 was a terrible baby, cried the whole time! DC2 was a wonderful content baby. DC1 is now a lovely 9 year old, very confident, outgoing and fearless. DC2 is an extremely shy and anxious 6 year old, very sensitive and easily upset but also hilarious, sweet and thoughtful. They are SO different!

SallyWD · 17/11/2019 16:30

About the sleep - DC1 and 2 very similar in that respect. Both had night wakings until 12 months but have slept through since then.

meandmyboyz · 17/11/2019 16:32

My 2 boys are complete opposites character wise , eldest really studious , quiet , passive , shy mannered , youngest very confident , complete comedian , and so loud .

However they both slept great from very early on.

Expecting my 3rd boy in 15 days so it'll be interesting to see his personality xxx

CouldBeOuting · 17/11/2019 16:42

I could have written that ^

Andsoitisjust99 · 17/11/2019 16:43

Very!

notso · 17/11/2019 16:45

DD and DS2 are really similar. Sporty, emotional, loud, impulsive, come across as really confident but actually have little self confidence, very loving when they want to be, stylish, highly strung.
Both early risers and not the best sleepers as babies.

DS1 and DS3 are really similar. Keen to please, quiet, neat, stubborn, set in their ways, not competitive, studious, keep their feelings bottled up, easy going, don't really care what others think.
Both loved to sleep from being tiny

All have a good sense of humour and everyone says they are clones of each other!

Butterfly02 · 17/11/2019 16:49

Ds1 autistic quiet until he gets to know you comes out with bizarre questions but cares so much for his family they mean the world to him. Hard worker.
Ds2 twin is my brother and nephews personality double Hmm thinks that he's put on this planet to entertain teacher says he's the class clown but does know when to stop. He's very intelligent and unfortunately doesn't have to work hard at everything is very cuddly mummy's boy.
Dd1 twin my double in personality and looks. Looks more like Ds1 than she does her twin. She's probably more like him without the autistic trates.

Drabarni · 17/11/2019 16:49

we have three they are all different, but one is off the scale weird.
They are all loved equally, and share some common traits.
dark and sarcastic humour for a start and appetite Grin

unicornsrule · 17/11/2019 16:52

Very complete opposites in looks and personality
Dd1 has brown hair and brown eyes she is 14
Dd2 has blonde hair and blue eyes she is 11
Dd1 is very quiet she has dyspraxia and may have autism
Dd2 is very loud and talks non stop and she worries about everything

DramaAlpaca · 17/11/2019 16:53

Very different. All boys (well, young men now) and close in age. DS1 is gregarious & sociable. He is a real people person & is great at reading people & getting the best out of them. DS2 is clever, introverted, self-contained & very deep, quietly confident & independent. DS3 is very academic, quirky, shy, funny & kind. Their personalities as adults are similar to when they were small. Thankfully, they now all sleep Wink

unicornsrule · 17/11/2019 16:55

As babies they were very different

Dd1 was a moaning and whinging baby and didn't feed well she weighed 6lbs 12.5ozs
Dd2 was a happy and very alert baby and had lots of milk she weighed 8lbs 7

CoffeeRunner · 17/11/2019 16:56

DS1 has Asperger’s. As a baby he would only sleep if he was being held or driven around in the car. He was a very “disruptive” little boy - in that he would only do something if he wanted to do it. He is 22 now, works full time & is one of the kindest, most caring, lovely young men you could ever meet.

DS2 - a very “easy” baby & child. Slept really well, fed well, etc. At school he was always calm, quiet & worked hard. Struggled a bit with spelling & languages but is something of a maths expert (currently doing a degree in it). Personality wise, he is also a very kind, caring young man. But he is much more worldly wise than his brother.

DD - very shy. Sleeping wise she was somewhere between her brothers. She slept better than DS1 but nowhere near as well as DS2. At school she is shy & can lack confidence, but works hard & is very good at English & languages. Again, a very kind & loving child.

So in short - all similar deep down but also very different.

StuffYouAllInTheCrust · 17/11/2019 16:58

Dd1 - sensitive, very caring and a worrier, dd2 - funny, fearless and as confident as they come.

Sleep wise identical, both fantastic from very early on.

Just shows you never can tell! 🤷🏻‍♀️
