Swelling over collarbone

Okay so I’ve been noticing a swelling over my collarbone, i don’t know how long has it been there but i noticed it last week, when I press on it it feels very soft like almost fluid. I don’t feel anything hard or solid inside but it’s visible on the left side and i can clearly see it. My brother had neck lymph nodes since childhood so i know what they feel like but this one is so confusing. Can it still be a node if its very soft and squishy? I can see clear boundaries of it but can’t feel it. I’m worried cause google says swelling nodes above clavicle can be cancer. I literally cant focus. Please someone give there 2 cents

A lipoma maybe? Lymph nodes are firmer.

I hope it is something benign like that. Don’t know if I should rush to a doctor or not, I’m afraid the doctor might think I’m a crazy hypochondriac

It’s most likely something not to worry about but I would certainly see you’re GP, that’s what they are for.

@moreismore thing is we don’t really have insurance here and gotta pay for appointments and they are expensive obviously. Also hours of waiting even after you book your appointment weeks in advance.

@newhousestress yeah im trying to press it to find something firmer inside but i just feel the tendons in the neck. It just looks very visible superficially.

I would get it checked if you can afford it. Chances are it’s unlikely to be nothing but on the off chance it is something (and I don’t just mean something life threatening) getting it seen you early could make all the difference.

Any kind of swelling/lump should be investigated.

Is it getting bigger? Have you looked up where the lymph nodes are in that part of your body and what they feel like to see if it matches up? I had one up being my ear and it felt like a little soft lump the size of a cashew nut but I know they can feel slightly different in different places, like your throat for example.

I understand. But in the kindest way, the internet can’t give you ananswee

You're in the States (?) with no health insurance? I'd get that sorted first iiwy xx

sharye · 17/11/2019 12:04

@Bellasblankexpression no its the same size, im not sure if i can call it a lump, it looks like one but doesn’t feel like one. Most lumps are supposed to have clear boundaries and are denser in consistency but it just feels like fat but what makes me worried that its only on one side.
I do have to go to the hospital for a pain management doctor maybe I’ll ask her to check it out

I had the same. I was put on the two week pathway.

The ENT surgeon told me it was good that it moved. Then I had, needle biopsy (revealed nothing) then a CT/MRI scan. Then lymph node removal. You go in as a day case.

It turned out to be a type of TB. But other infections can cause it.

I still have enlarged lymph nodes and had to have some removed, again it's a day case surgery.

You can get swellings for a variety of reasons. So don't panic.
