Help! Is this chicken pox?

mamama2018 · 16/11/2019 21:53

DS, 14 months, has these spots, mainly around his mouth, some on his back and a few on his legs. However he has no temperature and is 100% well in himself, not itching and eating like a horse as usual.
Are they chicken pox spots? If not what else could it be?

Hand foot and mouth maybe

Notverygrownup · 16/11/2019 22:00

Oh bless him. They do look chicken poxy. If it is there will be more spots along in a second wave, somewhere else on the body. . . .

Hope that he gets better soon.

My daughter had something similar last year and it was impatigo, needed antibiotics I think. Doesn’t look like chicken pox to me

mamama2018 · 16/11/2019 22:11

There is a hand, foot and mouth outbreak at his nursery but there's nothing on his hands and feet, just back and legs? Can this be the case?

I was thinking about taking him to the doctors on Monday morning before nursery to see if he can go or not but I'd be massively worried about newborns/pregnant women if it is pox.

THAts not pox. But he may well be contagious anyway so def see a doc.
Have the face ones blistered or filled?

QueefLatifah · 17/11/2019 20:51

And yes hand foot can only show up on legs and mouth buttocks etc are common too. As is in the mouth. Those spots don’t look like chicken pox blisters

StopMakingATitOfUrselfNPissOff · 17/11/2019 20:52

Another vote for hand foot and mouth.

Mummyshark2018 · 17/11/2019 21:02

Looks like hand foot and mouth or measles.

scubaprincess · 17/11/2019 21:08

That looks exactly like what my little girl had this week and it turned out to be hand foot and mouth. Nursery took one look at her and confirmed it (and they see a lot of stuff). Luckily they didn't mind her still going! She was sticking her tongue out a lot and that's because there would've been blisters under her tongue making it sore. She also had some on the back of her knee too and on one of her wrists and tops of her fingers. Hopefully it passes quickly for you all. Also watch out it is contagious-I've escaped but DH got it-not very pleasant.

Crunchymum · 17/11/2019 21:42

@scubaprincess

Am I reading it correctly that your DC nursery suspected your DC has HFM and still let them attend ????? Shock

Crunchymum · 17/11/2019 21:43

Also @mamama2018

If there has been an outbreak of HFM at his nursery then I'd suspect that is what your DS has!!

dementedpixie · 17/11/2019 21:44

You dont have to exclude for HFM

dementedpixie · 17/11/2019 21:48

Exclusion for HFM

Children are safe to return to school or nursery as soon as they are feeling better, there is no need to stay off until the blisters have all healed. Keeping your child off for longer periods is unlikely to stop the illness spreading. Exclusion of a well pupil is not required.

SuperDuperJezebel · 17/11/2019 23:07

Looks like HFM... My daughter has had it a few times now annoyingly.

Angelfishfunkydodo · 17/11/2019 23:18

Yes - I agree - likely to be HFM
as can come on torso/buttocks & the blisters tend to be far smaller than C-pox & not itchy (but can be painful)
Be careful that you keep area around moth clean & dry as poss (difficult I know when they’re dribbling) otherwise can bacteria can invade the broken skin barrier & impetigo can occur 🙈
If any other the spots behind yellowy/weepy/crusts consider impetigo & visit Gp for antibiotic therapy ♥️

scubaprincess · 18/11/2019 08:24

Yes @Crunchymum they let her stay. I was shocked too! She was completely fine in herself-not grumpy, eating normally and no fever so they let her go in. Our nursery don't class it as an exclusion anymore but I know some do.

mamama2018 · 21/11/2019 23:41

Went to doctors first thing Monday and it was HFM, plus Impetigo around the mouth, in case anyone is ever in the same boat! He's my first so I had no idea HFM wasn't just on the hands, feet and mouth! Thanks to all those that replied.
