Anyone else not want anyone to win this General Election?

It seems to be a given that you will vote for one of the two main parties. If on a thread you say you can’t vote Tory because of x then people go ‘OMG how could you vote Labour with their issues with y??’ And vice versa.

But I don’t want to vote for either party because of x AND y, and I can’t see myself being happy on Friday 13th with either in power.

I don’t want either to win. What I really want is neither to win and no government to be formed, both leaders to stand down and a rerun with less terrible options.

Or I guess a minority government limping through to a second referendum to sort the Brexit issue, then another GE with new leaders.

Anyone else?

the Tories would probably field Jacob Rees Mogg next.

Don’t think so. They stuck him in a cupboard after his Grenfell comments, I think his star is on the wane.

Who would win for Labour? Yvette Cooper? Not sure. Keir Starmer maybe.
Who would be less repulsive for the Tories? I think all the moderates have left. But surely any other candidate wouldn’t be this disgusting mix of racism, misogyny, self-interest and total disregard for the truth.

I'm not against a hung Parliament.

If you live in a safe seat and it’s not who you want to vote for, I can see how people think their vote is wasted. Some areas have had the same MP for decades. My friend, for example, lived in a safe Tory seat but she votes Labour every election. Her vote is seemingly washed down the drain because the current MP will always get the seat, he has for around 20 years.

I would personally like Labour under Dawn Butler.

I vote for a party's policies, not its leader and voting Conservative is the only realistic option for me. I didn't vote for Johnson but that doesn't change my opinion.

Sinittasdancers · 17/11/2019 19:36

It's not a choice between labour and conservative, labour won't win. The choice is between the conservatives (or poss conservatives propped up by brexit party) and a minority labour government propped up by lib Dems/snp etc. Given that the second eventuality would mitigate against the more extreme ideas of labour, lib Dems, snp I think that's the best option, I think a coalition of conservative + brexit party would be a terrible outcome, the brexit party would pull the Tories even further to the right and leave a vacuum everywhere further left than the centre-right and isn't what most of the electorate want , but then fptp just doesn't deliver what the electorate want.

Sinittasdancers · 17/11/2019 19:38

So in answer to the question, no, I don't want anyone to win because I want them to be forced into finding a consensus between them. To that end I'll be voting tactically.

bellinisurge · 20/11/2019 11:45

Thank you, op. I can't see anyone I'd want as PM from the party leaders. Third rate , every one of them.

Alsohuman · 20/11/2019 13:35

or poss conservatives propped up by brexit party

Impossible. There won’t be an Brexit Party MPs.

viccat · 20/11/2019 14:34

I think a coalition government with at least 3 parties in it would work much better. It's the norm in many other European countries (for example Scandinavia) and tends to result in a more moderate outcome.

holly40 · 20/11/2019 17:11

both leaders to stand down and a rerun with less terrible options.

Yes. I'd like this too.
I've always voted the same way, but don't feel I can this time. Wouldn't feel like I was doing the right thing. But the other option is far worse still. Neither option suits me. Or any of the prominent smaller parties. I'm lost.
