We have always gone via Crystal, Neilsen etc and booked a hotel or guesthouse half board package.

What is the deal with chalets? Do you have to share with other people? (we are a family of 3).

Thank you.

A lot of our friends get a group together (kids from the same class at school usually) and book the same chalet to fill the rooms with people they know and not strangers.

But otherwise yes you share the common areas with strangers and all the kids eat together and then later all the adults eat together.

My idea of hell, but many people enjoy it. I personally want to spend the evening in my thermals with my husband and kids eating pasta, not having to get dressed in order to dine with strangers and make small talk for 6 nights with people i'll never see again.

I've only ever shared chalets with friends and/or family. Would hate to do it with strangers!

It depends. If you have a small chalet, then it's all to yourself, but a larger one wouldn't be.

I went with five friends, and the chalet was just us. But on another trip I went with DH, and we shared a 20-person chalet with two other groups of people - it turned out to be brilliant fun, assuming you are up for a bit of mixing. You have privacy in your own room, but have meals etc. with others. We got on so well with one group we skiied with them most days.

It’s a bit like staying in a hotel, but better.

You get breakfast, afternoon tea & dinner (the latter usually includes unlimited wine).

The chalet girl we had cooked like a dream. There was always a home-made cake waiting when we got in from skiing, then the most divine dinners. Much less impersonal than a hotel.

I've only ever done this in large groups of people I know. Sharing one with strangers really wouldn't appeal to me, but I'm fairly unsociable 🤣

Ah thanks, doesn't sound like out thing. Will stick to hotels, thanks!
