Why do I cry at just about anything now?

Since having children (I’ve three under four) I’ve been a bit more easy to move to tears, however I was always a bit misty eyed even at XFactor Hmm

It’s getting worse and I don’t know if I’m normal or if I have genuine emotional incontinence.

Moana - seen it about 30 times. Cry every time. Bordering on sobs.

Frozen - ditto

Molly and Mack theme tune - can’t sing along now as my voice cracks

Nursery reports when the children are credited for being kind

Twinkle twinkle little star - voice cracking at playgroups is not cool

Can’t cope with the CBeebies goodnight song at 6:55 anymore

Christmas choral singing soundtracks in shopping centres

It’s something the children notice and whilst I’m teaching them emotional honesty and call them happy tears it’s getting to be virtually every day.

And now Christmas is coming I’m going to be crying all over shopping centres when the grass bands are in.

I know how wet I sound: I’m a happy and confident person. It’s just anything related to childhood and innocence (esp with soaring strings) now finishes me off in seconds.

Help.

I have no advice other than to tell you never to attempt to watch either Bambi or Dumbo.

LadyFatboobs · 16/11/2019 13:05

God it’s telling this thread is virtually empty!

Ps I meant “brass bands” in my OP, not “grass bands”.

Think they’d be much more acceptable.

This is me! A few years ago I was stony-faced and even friends used to joke that I was cold hearted Grin

DD is 18 months old and I cry at literally EVERYTHING! Sad adverts, songs, films, you name it.

DH likes to take the piss.

Freddiefox · 16/11/2019 13:52

Oh yes I get his all the time sin e having children mine are older now as well, and I thought by now it would have improved.. sometimes it’s completely inappropriate.

I’ve learnt to look for colours in the environment I’m in now to try to control it a bit.

AtrociousCircumstance · 16/11/2019 13:56

I hear you OP Grin I’m the same!

Plus you have three under four 🏆 You’re still in the hormonal ocean part of motherhood.

With great sensitivity comes great gifts!

Christmas choral singing soundtracks in shopping centres

This. And brass bands playing Christmas carols/songs. It gets me every single time and I have to appear rude as I walk away with a huge lump in my throat and tears in my eyes! It's definitely linked to childhood innocence and the magic of Christmas for me.

I cry at The Snowman. Every. Single. Time. Even though I know what happens, the song 'Walking in the Air' by Aled Jones makes me weep as it takes me back to when I was little and (I was a lucky child, I know) the magic of Christmasses back when I was very young.

I'm 22 weeks pregnant with twins and recently had to have my 16 year old dog put to sleep. Now the TSB advert with the horses and "No matter what you're going through, I will look after you" makes me cry as it makes me think of my dog - and my babies.

Also, the Miffy theme song on YouTube. I play it to the unborn babies and it makes me cry because it's so bloody cute!

Ah fuck, I'm crying again now!

MintToBee · 16/11/2019 14:02

Im an emotional wreck now I'm going through perimenopause and the fact I've just had to return a jacket for a refund due to a faulty zip has reduced me to tears. Its spent the summer with me going on my honeymoon and up mountains and across the Hebrides. Sad

edgen2019 · 16/11/2019 14:03

Lady - whenever I see Lassie limping across the screen with his paw bandaged the tears start to flow, and I am old enough to know better. Dumbo has the same effect on me.

ooonicorn · 16/11/2019 14:07

Just reading this has set me off! Yes to all the CBeebies songs too. The goodnight one is the worst along with the tee and mo go to sleep one

LadyFatboobs · 16/11/2019 14:27

the tee and mo go to sleep one

Oh god. GOD. Just thinking about it slays me.

My mum is no longer around and though I’ve had 14 years to get used to it I wonder if that explains things.

I also cry on take off when flying. It’s so weird but it’s like the release I need after being so uptight and nervous waiting to take off.

I can recommend Eyeko Waterproof.

I'm absolutely the same and I got worse after having DS too.
Brass bands and Silent Night are my worst nightmares!

WhatsMyAgeAgain0 · 16/11/2019 14:34

Oh wow that’s a lot of tears!

I am the exact opposite. I can’t cry and never cry.
Nothing gets me.
Not pride of Britain awards
Not long lost family
Nothin

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 16/11/2019 14:35

Snap! Was a right hard faced one pre kids. Have 3, 4 6 and 7, and can’t even blame hormones I don’t think. I weep at everything. I am a teacher and have found myself crying when chn do when they’re having a rough time - not professional or helpful. Weep at comedies, chns tv, anything really. God help me when I’ve had a glass of wine, ten times worse!
I don’t know if everything just seems more relevant and poignant now with the kids? Who knows. I hate it!

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 16/11/2019 14:36

I cried reading stick man yesterday ffs

MoneyM · 16/11/2019 14:37

Yes! And it's just since having kids. Children in Need last night was a killer. Sending tears of solidarity.

LadyFatboobs · 16/11/2019 18:38

Absolutely standard.

That, and the Paper Dolls should come with a warning. “Voice cracking likely; tears certain. Proceed wisely”

I'm going through menopause and hormones all over place are making me well up over literally anything, but lately all the Christmas adverts are having me sobbing. I just think about all the lonely people and the poor people and the unhappy kids that won't be having a wonderful Christmas and I just cry my eyes out and want to make everybody have just one lovely day! Well, not just one, but you know what I mean

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 16/11/2019 19:12

Oh god the Paper Dolls and Peepo are well hidden away, I can’t cope!

thornyhousewife · 16/11/2019 19:28

Totally in the same boat.

It's getting worse as I get older. I actually had full rolling tears at the kids nativity last year.... and my kids weren't even in it!!

YouSetTheTone · 16/11/2019 20:08

I couldn’t watch CIN as I knew I’d be too sad Sad (did donate though!)
Yes to the CBeebies goodnight song and what’s worse is we often watch it at my parents’ house and my dad sings along to it. It makes me feel really sentimental at the best of times and I can’t even think about him not being here but I just know that if I hear that song it’s going to pack a punch. (Shit, am crying).

Away in a Manger ALWAYS gets me at nativities. Last year we were invited to join in for the last verse and I could barely croak anything out through my thick throat and wavering sobs. DH patted my hand knowingly.

Jesuisclaude · 16/11/2019 20:48

Came on to say completely horrendously broke down reading ‘Once There Were Giants’ the other day, worse than stick man by far.

Don’t even start me on the amazing cross-community Belfast Community Gospel Choir singing carols in the city centre at Christmas - howl fest.

AtrociousCircumstance · 17/11/2019 16:12

‘Oh, The Places You’ll Go’.

Every. Single. Time 😭
