How can I stop my daughter’s nausea?

I wonder if anyone can help? My 16 year old daughter has had a mystery infection for about a week now but since the doctor can't locate it, she hasn't been given anything to make it go away. She has a temperature and intense stomach pain. But the worst symptom is the nausea that wakes her up early in the morning and doesn't go till the afternoon. It's really debilitating and she's miserable. Her GCSE mocks start on Monday morning for two weeks (doctor says that the nausea is related to the infection as she has a temperature and that it's not stress related). She can't eat and is really worried that she won't be able to sit the exams. She just wants the nausea to go away to she can get on with her exams. Help!

I'm sorry but if she is feeling that awful then she needs to be at home. Screw the mocks. Seriously. She needs to know that this is ok to do.

I'd also be asking for a second opinion at the GP.

Is there ANY chance she’s pregnant?

Sorry, temp and tummy pain would indicate not unless ectopic but just thought it might be worth asking.

BlueGingerale · 16/11/2019 09:13

Does sound a lot like morning sickness.

The doctor has just left her get on with it...an unknown infection! Well how thats going to go.

Any blood tests done to investigate even?

Weird Confused

I would also be suspecting pregnancy, possibly ectopic. Which left unchecked can be incredibly serious. I would be going straight back to the doctors either way.

Ginfordinner · 16/11/2019 09:21

UTI?
Grumbling appendix?

LER1968 · 16/11/2019 09:38

Thanks to you all. Definitely not pregnancy (mum would say that but really, not). The doctor did a urine test (not sure what for as her dad took her) and said that they would have to wait for if you get worse to find out what it is causing it. Then it can be effectively treated. But in the meantime, she jjust needs someway of stopping the nausea.

Is she actually being sick or just nausea?
Maybe call 111 and ask if somewhere can administer anti nausea by iv?
Was the only thing that helped when I had gastritis. ( they also did iv paracetamol)

Please keep pushing it with GP. I really really hope this is just a nasty bug but the same happened a year ago this week to DD1 and she is still constantly nauseous without her anti sickness medication. We now know she has IBD and one of the causes could have been a bug. Highly likely this will clear up but we had to push and push and try to convince everyone it wasn't sixth form pressure and caused by anxiety.

Ds2 (11) has had this all last week
Its horrid
Try her with some charcoal tablets
Xx

Toddlerteaplease · 16/11/2019 09:52

Buccastem is available over the counter and is very good.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/11/2019 09:54

I had an upset stomach this week and am still getting nausea even though I'm fine most of the time. I think there is a nasty bug going round. As I know of two other people with it.

Crunchymum · 16/11/2019 09:56

I think you need to have another appt and push for them to find the cause but in the meantime try travel sickness bands and pepto-bismal tablets.

Tippytappytoes · 16/11/2019 11:58

You can get some over the counter anti nausea medication, but the good stuff is only available from the Drs. Having had extreme nausea over an extended period of time 2 years ago due to a large undiagnosed ovarian cyst that was only found whilst looking for something else, I would recommend going back to the Drs, to see a different Dr (and get some anti nausea stuff at the same time). I found drinking still lemonade (the juice not the pop) help cut through some of the nausea. Eating little and often can help too.
