If you've had a bit of a bad year, do you fancy joining me in a challenge to end it well?

We have 46 days left.

I want to :
Declutter a bag of unneeded stuff a day
Exercise every day
Self care every day - a bit of pampering in the run up to Christmas
Have five a day and 2 litres of water
Chase up any medical appointments: eyes, teeth, check-ups etc
Cut back on sugar and alcohol until Christmas week

Making plans for next year (holidays, home improvements, new jobs etc also welcome on this thread.

Anyone fancy joining me and posting daily tab of what they are up to?

Today I will:
Declutter the hall and spare room
Have a hill walk in the sunshine
Do my nails
Make a big pot of veggie soup
Have a day off the booze, having been out two nights in a row.

What are you up to?

That level of pressure is not sustainable! But I’ll join you in doing one small thing to improve my quality of life every day till Christmas!

VanillaSugarr · 16/11/2019 08:58

I’m going to join you. We have had a family bereavement and I was unexpectedly taken very ill. Hopefully we will have a bit of good news next week which I won’t share today as I don’t want to jinx it 🤞

PurpleDaisies · 16/11/2019 08:58

Just spotted this-great idea!

Today I’m...
Going to the tip
Going to the gym
Doing some uni work
Decluttering for 15 minutes under the stairs
Writing the birthday cards that have been hanging around for ages

I’ve bought some new face stuff that I am really liking and going to actively remember to use.
I’m aiming for more home cooked and less freezer food.
I am going to actually get stuff done instead of stressing about what order to do it in!

Goawayquickly · 16/11/2019 08:58

Cannot wait to see the back of this decade.

I need to take a bag to the charity shop today and get my hair trimmed.
On a larger scale I want to factor in fun to every day even if it's just a half hour comedy show

quirkychick · 16/11/2019 08:58

Place marking.

Yesterday I completed five days of short but quite tough yoga
Did 16,000 steps on my fitbit
Did some leg exercises with a resistance band
Bought some stuff for dc's stockings and some files to sort paperwork into

So far today, I have done a proper Headspace session (as opposed to just sleep music at night)
Done a restorative yin yoga to make up for lots of exercise this week

newdeer · 16/11/2019 09:59

Great to see so many other people joining in.

@Happyspud - I genuinely didn't think it was pressured, so am interested you think it is. It's definitely not meant to be. Everyone can make a simple plan that works for them. The idea was to get some small sense of satisfaction towards the end of a shitty year. I've been ill this year, put on a stack of weight and got into a slump. I woke up this morning thinking, it's not too late. I can get some stuff done this year that is worthwhile. Mainly the decluttering but also the self care which I had let slip.

@VanillaSugarr - sounds like you deserve to end the year with plenty of self-care. Sorry for your loss and your illness.
@PurpleDaisies - good list!
@quirkychick, the yoga sounds great.
@Goawayquickly - I love the idea of fun every day

Just tried out the Superdrug hot cloth face polish and toner. Smells nice, at least! Grin Off to declutter now.

Ninjakittysmellz · 16/11/2019 10:04

Ooh I love this idea - thank you! Leave it with me and I will come back with my list!

VanillaSugarr · 16/11/2019 10:25

I have put my hair up in Babyliss rollers and for once the end result is worthy of Kate Middleton! So far it’s a good hair day Grin

PurpleDaisies · 16/11/2019 10:47

Just tried out the Superdrug hot cloth face polish and toner.

Is that from the Be Radiant range? That’s what I’ve just switched to. It’s about a sixth of what I paid before, vegan and cruelty free and my skin loves it. I’d recommend the glycolic overnight peel which isn’t what is sounds like. It’s just a gel type thing you put on which dries immediately and you wash your face in the morning. It leaves your skin really soft and smooth.

PurpleDaisies · 16/11/2019 10:50

I've been ill this year, put on a stack of weight and got into a slump

Just spotted this-it’s exactly the position I’m in too. Really nice to have a buddy.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 16/11/2019 11:02

I'll join you in making some small changes to make the end of the year more positive. I need to cut right down on the caffeine (bit of a Pepsi Max habit) and sugar and also need more sleep. I'm going to try to remember to take my hair, skin and nails supplements as my skin and hair are really suffering at the moment. Am doing regular hair and face masks twice a week.

MrsMozartMkII · 16/11/2019 11:07

I'll be ending the year on a much better note than last new year.

We've moved. We've bought land. Both are things we've been wanting to do for years. Things aren't perfect but we're so much further along.

Our busineses are, in a large part thanks to a couple of threads on here, on the up. We've become far more ogranized and put far more of the right sort of effort in.

So, I won't be doing a daily thing as what we want and need are 'bigger' pieces, but there are daily inputs.

newdeer · 16/11/2019 11:58

@MrsMozartMkll - that sounds so exciting! Great way to end a year, living the dreams you have had for years.

@PurpleDaisies - yes, that range, just tried it today and really like it. A fraction of Liz Earle costs... And yes, it's nice to have a buddy who has been through similar stuff. I just want to feel I have actually done something I set out to do this year but most of my plans were shelved due to bad health, so decluttering and better self care are manageable and will make me feel more in control and up about this past year.

I like the sound of Kate Middleton hair, @VanillaSugarr.

@SugarMiceInTheRain and @Ninjakittysmellz - welcome.

I'm in!
I'm trying to get organised so I'm not completely stressed out in December.
Today I'm going to wrap presents and prepare food for an event tomorrow.

Also going to try to wrap the presents due to be delivered this weekend so they're ready to go when needed.

quirkychick · 16/11/2019 13:48

VanillaSugarr we have had a family bereavement too. Elderly family member quite ill and confused, refusing the help they need Sad.

We also have dc with SEN and I've had several bouts of feeling like rubbish with perimenopause and lack of sleep.

I'm trying to mix being productive when I feel energetic and having a rest when I don't, as much as rl will allow. Also, little things like having a quick walk in the very small park near dd's school or dancing to the radio in the kitchen which involve being active and fun. Re taking up playing music and having a pile of books to read to look forward to.

I'm definitely a fan of baby steps, I did really overhaul my health about 7yrs ago through baby steps but it takes maintenance and occasionally getting back on track again Grin.

Chickenwing · 16/11/2019 15:40

Today I went for a run for the first time in over 6 months. I hated it and I can't manage much more than 2 minutes without stopping, but it's a start Smile

I've eaten some soup and snacked on some billtong. Will have bolognese for dinner. Not too unhealthy. We have run out of coke zero so will be drinking water.

Done a washing and tidied the bedroom a little.

I think for the rest of the day i will just relax in front of the tv. Maybe do a hair mask as my pamper!

Thanks for starting the thread. A little bit of motivation to sort my life out a little bit at a time.

Flurgle · 16/11/2019 18:59

I’m in- just need to make my list. Although am poorly so taking the weekend to recover!

afternoonspray · 16/11/2019 22:22

@Chickenwing - brilliant that you went for a run.

I ended up coming down with a cold so didn't do most of what I had planned, but did make soup, do my nails and face polish, declutter and clean the hall, tidy and clean the living room, cook a very healthy tea, drink water and eat 5 a day, research new carpets and read some more of a novel (trying to read more too.)

Not a bad start, given that I spent most of the day shivering in front of the TV wrapped in a fleece dressing gown.

newdeer · 16/11/2019 22:27

Welcome @RagingBall and @Flurgle. Getting ahead of Christmas wrapping is a good idea. I always leave it until the last minute.

Flurgle - hope you get better soon. I'm getting that shivery achey thing and we have guests tomorrow so I hope it doesn't hang around.

I mostly had a restful day yesterday, as we then went out in the evening. I thought I'd really over indulged but when I tracked my food on mfp it wasn't too bad. I refuse to feel guilty over food, and the food was delicious Wink, so will just get back on track after. A bit too much red wine, but neither dp or I usually drink much, so it will even itself out.

Today's goals are Headspace meditation, which I've already done.
Some yoga, which I haven't done yet.
Put something nutritious food in the instant pot for later, I haven't decided what but it will involve lots of veggies.
Go to the park with dcs, to get some fresh air.
Dance around the kitchen and with dd2 a bit.
Try to get in 10,000 steps to reach an average of 12,000 for each day this week.

We'll done on the run, Chickenwing.

We have lots of family birthdays around Christmas, so we need to be a bit organised. My tip for wrapping is to use gift bags, reusable, quick, easy and look great.

PurpleDaisies · 17/11/2019 14:25

I got lots of useful things done yesterday. Not everything but that’s ok. Today’s plan is...
Do some uni work.
Clean our pets.
Meal plan.
Church.
15 mins decluttering.

Plus a snooze, some reading and possibly a bath.

newdeer · 17/11/2019 23:19

I cleaned the ground floor - hoovered, mopped etc, had a long bath and two good walks - an hour in the woods and about 30 mins from the next village back home. Spent some time with my lovely brother too.

Nice idea

newdeer · 18/11/2019 07:20

Today I want to eat really healthily. Going for a long walk with family who are visiting and have some time carved out to get on with a creative project with a family member who is doing a similar project so we are going to work together for a couple of hours. Keeping it simple today as until guests are gone it's hard to crack on with decluttering, decorating and dieting.
