What are the chances that I do actually have a hairline fracture?

I came off a scooter 2 weeks ago and hurt my leg.

It still hurts today. There is a big bruise but no obvious swelling.

However, it still hurts if I put weight on it(such as leaning on it to get into bed) though it doesn’t hurt to walk on it.

I do have osteopenia too so I wonder if I do have a hairline fracture or is it just a very bad bruise?

You should get it checked by a doctor.

Sierra259 · 16/11/2019 08:17

If you have osteopenia and difficulty weightbearing after a fall, then there is definitely a chance of a fracture. You need to get it checked to rule it out. I'd go early as A&E will only get busier as the day goes on.

Yeah I know Grin

It’s on the list of crap to do

I was hoping it would heal on its own but it really doesn’t seem to be improving

Yeah you’ll need an x-ray!

nononever · 16/11/2019 08:29

I'd definitely go to A&E to have it x-rayed. I had pain in my foot but only when I lifted it, no swelling or bruising. After 6 weeks of suffering it I eventually had it x-rayed, it was fractured in three places. I'd left it so long it had started to heal itself so didn't need treatment. It took around 3 months to be pain free. Best to check.

WibblyWobblyWonder · 16/11/2019 10:23

I wouldn't go to A&E if it happened 2 weeks ago, A&E is for emergencies. Phone 111 and see if you can get an out of hours appointment or wait until Monday, see your GP and get them to request an xray.

Imaystillbedrunk · 16/11/2019 10:27

A&E is also for accidents, or traumas, a broken bone is considered a trauma 🙄.

Its not people with broken bones destroying the NHS.

Get checked out and looked after

YeOldeTrout · 16/11/2019 10:33

Let us know what the outcome is, OP?

Soubriquet · 16/11/2019 15:12

It’s a teeny tiny fracture.

Not enough to require treatment as such, but enough to be a bother.

I’ve got to rest it, keep on top of painkillers and it should ease in the next 2-4 weeks.

Thanks all

thanks for update. Lucky escape?!

nononever · 16/11/2019 15:41

Glad you got it checked out, hope it settles down soon.

Soubriquet · 16/11/2019 15:43

Very lucky escape Grin

Wish I would say I learnt my lesson but I kinda have no choice but to use it twice a day, 5 times a week to get to and from work..

Did you go to A&E? I fell a few weeks ago and am struggling to weight bear, but I’m also waiting for hip replacement surgery. I went to the Dr, who said I’d aggravated it, but it’s got considerably worse. I’m wondering how I’d be received at A&E weeks after the event.

Soubriquet · 16/11/2019 15:47

I went to my local MIU which is open until 12

Thanks @Soubriquet - I’ll check out our nearest one.

Shockers · 16/11/2019 17:02

I’d use a stick for a while, so you aren’t putting extra pressure on it.

cakeandchampagne · 16/11/2019 18:00

Thanks for the update. I’m glad you went in & it’s not too bad.
