Cat fight wound

Hi all, my cat has a small puncture wound form another cat. Does anyone know if he would need antibiotics from the vet for this?

We took him before and they gave antibiotics but the wound was worse.

I'd clean it out with some antiseptic (good luck!) and wait and see how your cat is. If he's acting himself with no bother then it'll be fine, you'll notice though if the wound needs treatment within a day or two.

I'd keep an eye on it, and possible try to bathe it with salt water. It could well turn into an abscess, which would definitely need antibiotics. I've treated my cat with Leucillin drops (I got them from Pets at Home) when he's had bite wounds and they've helped him heal really well. Obviously if it starts to look swollen/infected then take him straight to the vet.

My cat was hobbling around last year and I took it to the vet who said it had been bitten in a fight and the wound had gone septic so that was causing the pain. He needed two.lots of antibiotic injections and was given a painkiller. I suppose it depends where it is. I was surprised that the two consultations and drugs came to just twenty eight pounds.

Pleasantly surprised I should add!

Small puncture wounds can be deceptive as you dont know how deep they are. Cat fight wounds often get infected. I would see a vet

Thanks all. He was real my grumpy when it first happened and subdued, then after an hour or two he was back to himself.

There’s one small wound at the back of one of his legs.

Posted too soon. I’ve bathed it too.

Are you sure it’s from a cat fight? Our old cat had what looked like a puncture wound from a fight but it was actually from an air gun Angry. He was ok but had to have the pellet removed, a week on antibiotics & 2 weeks house arrest (which is what pissed him off the most).

Greenbutterlfy566 · 15/11/2019 11:40

Bernard - that’s awful Sad poor thing.

I’m pretty sure it’s a cat wound as there’s a Tom cat that’s been terrorising him for nearly a year now. I normally lock the flap at a certain time but this time I forgot Sad he bullies my boy.

Poor cat. Mine is the same. He's a lover and talker but terrible in a fight. As others have said bathe it in salt water. Tomorrow if you feel it and feel a lump forming then head up to the vets of they are open on Saturday and get some antibiotics as it's turning into an abscess. It would probably be fine over the weekend if you can't get there until Monday. Worst case it will pop (and you will know it when it does as it stinks) and you clean it until you can get to the vet for some pain killers and antibiotics. Only area I wouldn't wait is if it's the bottom of his bum where the tail meets as we missed it and he needed it operating on as it's no a fatty area so a lot of dead skin and damage.

My cat was very recently attacked by a dog. Small puncture wound at skin level but he had an abscess that burst under the skin and he needed anti biotics for that. We had no way to know until we took him to the vets so I would suggest going back. It's so hard because they can't tell us how they're feeling and cats, in particular, don't tend to make a fuss.
