Biodegradable Baby Wipes *TITLE EDITED BY MNHQ*

Is it just me or do Biodegradable wipes stink?!?! I'm trying to be better for the earth but the smell is so weird and makes me a bit queasy.
I've tried two different brands and the smell is the exact same so I'm thinking maybe it's the way it has to be to allow them to be biodegradable.....
I've tried co-op and beaming baby.
Does anyone have alternative brands to use without the stench pls?

Dettol do biodegradable wipes. They smell quite pleasant actually.

Kaboni19 · 14/11/2019 21:27

@Squiff70 As in baby wipes?
Sorry should've specified that in the OP Blush

Andrex toilet wipes are meant to 98% biogradeable and smell nice

anonymouse · 14/11/2019 21:31

Not biodegradable but reusable- cheeky wipes.

Squiff70 · 14/11/2019 21:32

Oh heck no, don't use Dettol wipes on a baby or child! Sorry, for some reason I assumed you meant antibacterial wipes or similar. I'm 22 (nearly) weeks pregnant with twins and haven't checked out the biodegradable baby wipes market yet so I can't advise, sorry!

GiantKitten · 14/11/2019 21:32

Not nappy wipes, & relatively expensive, but these are actually safely flushable (better than biodegradable really) & have no smell at all.

Ocado sell them too

You might be better though getting washable reusable ones?

xtinak · 14/11/2019 21:34

I use these and have never thought they smelled www.aquaint-uk.com/home

Teachermaths · 14/11/2019 21:38

Oh gosh they aren't really biodegradable, the Andrex ones have blocked many a loo. Ask your local plumber!!

Cheeky wipes washable wipes are the best.

Widowodiw · 14/11/2019 21:42

Just stop using wipes! Move to reusable.

dottydally · 14/11/2019 21:46

@Kaboni19 have you tried Aqua wipes? Our baby isn't here yet but they feel/smell nice when I've used them myself Smile

I recently bought the boots ones, I have no complaints!

firstimemamma · 14/11/2019 21:52

Just switch to cheeky wipes and save a fortune. That's what I did and it's brilliant.

These biodegradable wipes are just a rip off - full of chemicals and the packet doesn't biodegrade (or at least this is true about the boots ones) so what the point?

Fluandseptember · 14/11/2019 21:55

3 kids. Total of 2 packs of wipes (both for travel, neither finished). Wipes are utterly unnecessary.

Kaboni19 · 14/11/2019 21:57

Thanks all for the advice Smile
I hadn't come across reusable wipes so will definitely check those out! X
Yeah I complained to beaming baby because I bought them to save the environment (plus discount came with hosp pack after birth lol!) and all I received after was promotional letter after letter.
I know you can recycle them but why produce them in the first place Hmm

The Mum and You ones don’t smell and are pretty good.

I use cheeky wipes at home but have some of these in the nappy bag. They don’t really biodegrade but are more sustainably produced than some so if you’re going to use disposables they’re not a bad bet.

Melonise · 14/11/2019 22:02

mumandyou.com/

These mum and you wipes smell fine to me, I've used them to remove make up a couple of times. Am 37 weeks with my first so not sure how they are on baby but they left my skin feeling like I'd cleaned it with water rather than that tight burning feeling that pampers wipes etc would give me so I think they'll be good for baby's skin.

However, I've seen it suggested that most "biodegradable" wipes will not biodegrade in standard bin conditions so it's a false claim. Have only seen this on fb comments though, haven't researched it!

Kaboni19 · 14/11/2019 22:06

It's such a shame if it is all a scam.
Hard to be environmentally friendly when there's so much conflicting information but happy to see there are brands out there that allow me to try my best Smile

Another vote for cheeky wipes (or other reusables). They were a complete revelation to me, far more effective than a standard baby wipe.
