Heating, colds, and humidifiers

Do you leave your heating on low at night.? My house is old, cold, and I have 2 small children. The youngest can't keep a quilt on, but I can put him in thick pjs. Don't wear a sleeping bag. The older is 4, and last winter suffered with a cough for ages. It wa awful for him ( and for me as although he seems able to cough and nor wake up, it kept me awake a lot)

We both have colds with bad coughs now and I'm wondering, should I keep the hearing on a lie level at night? Who it have ANY effect on a cough?

What about one of the Vicks humidifiers? Are they helpful with coughs? And if so, warm or cool mist?

It's the first cold of the winter, his first year at school and already we are both exhausted and run down. Any other advice?

If your house is really cold I'd be inclined to keep the heating on low at night. Dry air definitely exacerbates coughs - a damp towel on a radiator ( obv I mean a central heating one not electric or gas!) may be enough to moisten the air.

Thanks. I'm going to look at the heating instructions, as I am sure it should have different settings for different times? So I could set it to 15 or something overnight. I got home an hour ago and the temp was 14 downstairs. The heating went off at 9am, the houses loses heat quickly in this weather.

Get a nest thermostat. You can then set it on programmes with a lower temp overnight. It's really good.
