If you had severe pre eclampsia, have you had another baby?

I posted a while back on here when I had my baby in April this year (under this user name) I was diagnosed with pre eclampsia late in pregnancy (although looking back I definitely had the signs abit earlier I just didn’t realise) after I had my baby, I was told it was severe pre eclampsia, sepsis creeped in and I had a PPH. I had a few other issues too. It took me around 3 months to fully recover which was quicker than the doctors thought, which was good. My LG is 7 months and we are doing great.

Anyway my question - has anybody had another baby after having severe pre eclampsia? Was it worse than the first? How long did it take to recover? How were you and baby?

I definitely want another baby in approx 2 years (I’ll be 29) I’ve always imagined having 2 children. I’d love my LG to have a sibling. I’m just nervous about going through it again. I didn’t have the easiest pregnancy either I was sick all the way through until I gave birth!

My DH and I have thought about adoption too so we are not ruling that out either. I’d just like to hear other people’s stories really.

I have had a debrief meeting with the hospital too and met with the consultant. She did provide advice if I wanted to have another baby, but to be honest my head was all over so didn’t ask as many questions as I would have now. She did say I’d be under consultant care, be closely monitored and take aspirin etc to lower my chances of it developing in future pregnancies.

TIA

I had pre eclampsia, a pph and also developed full blown eclampsia after the birth. In a small percentage of women delivering the baby does not alleviate it apparently and they go on to develop eclampsia post birth.

I didn't have another child , I never really wished to, but the doctors were alll very against it and really really wished to sterilise me, I was 28. I had many other complications though, inc my kidneys starting to fail, and spent a month in hospital after the birth and had to have follow up appts for a year. Medical opinion was I was very unlikely to survive another pregnancy.

I made a full recovery, but the idea of falling pregnant again did scare my husband and I senseless even though I rejected the idea of sterilisation.

I developed severe pre-eclampsia around 32 weeks with my DD, spent 3 weeks in hospital and was induced at 35 weeks (which failed, leading to emergency c-section). DD spent two weeks in NICU/SCBU and it took over a year for me to fully come off all the medication for my blood pressure, and I had some problems with my kidneys, lots of tests etc.

It took us 3 years to decide to try for number two, but I had a much smoother pregnancy. I was put on low dose aspirin from early on, consultant-led, and my midwife asked to see me weekly from about week 28 to make sure my blood pressure was ok. I managed to get to week 39 before I developed pre-eclampsia again, and DS was born the day before he was due. It was a much more positive experience second time around for me.

I had pre eclampsia mildly with my first two pregnancies, but much more severely with my 3rd. Same partner, the hospital were very surprised! Baby delivered at 29 weeks, in special care for 4 months, now a strapping 6 footer, just started at a Russell Group uni...
Pregnant again at 42, with new partner. Monitored carefully with booked caesarian but no problems at all.

My DM did and luckily her next pregnancy wasnt affected. However she had a family member who did have pre-eclampsia with a second pregnancy (same dad) and that was the point when she was told not to have more children. This was back in the 80s so obviously advice might have changed.

I had preeclampsia, caught at 28 weeks, immediately hospitalised and medicated.

Delivered via caesarean at 30 weeks. Baby had iugr, hernia, very large facial haemangioma developed while in nicu.

I was in hospital for further 2 weeks postpartum. Dd in nicu for month and half. Decided not to try for another baby as the ongoing treatments needed for dd have made us realise our limits as parents.

Also I have kidney damage as a result so in no way want to risk any further damage.

Lastly the hospital admission and visiting in nicu for so long obliterated my business which took a long time to recover.

I developed it at 34 weeks with DC 1, he was induced at 37 weeks. I was prescribed medication post part in as my blood pressure got worse. I stayed on the medication throughout my next pregnancy (they’re 20 months apart) and developed pre-eclampsia again at 34 weeks. She was a week late so no induction but I was on high dosages of meds and in and out of hospital. Next 2 pregnancies were normal. DC5, pre-eclampsia set in again at 33 weeks but meds again helped him stay put until his due date. My blood pressure has been fine since thank god!

I had pre eclampsia in my second pregnancy and gave birth at 32 weeks as a result. In first pregnancy I had raised blood pressure and was monitored fir the last 4 weeks or so but it never got to the danger zone and I went into labour spontaneously at 39 weeks, but baby was very small for dates. After second birth I was told in no uncertain terms not to have another baby and went on to be hospitalised a week after the birth with blood pressure issues which took months to solve. Dealing with a Prem baby brings with it it’s own issues. I certainly would not have risked going through all that again.

Hi op, I had eclampsia with my first ds, had him at 34 weeks, a complete shock, and nearly lost him, had a c section, I was sedated for 24 hours after as I was so ill. He was in scbu for 3/4 days. I had my dd, 2 years later, had hbp in the pg, but vbac del, my dd2 was born 2 years after that, had pre eclampsia again, but literally as I was giving birth. I was hospitalised 2 wks before her birth for hbp, and then monitored. She was a rapid birth, I was told by docs never to have another child, as I was so ill again.
Good luck.

DC1 - pre-eclampsia at 28 weeks. CS at 31+3, but size of 28 weeker. NICU & SCBU roller coaster, but all turned out fine & healthy thankfully.

Was advised that I'd have an overall 1 in 10 chance of pre-eclampsia again, but likely get it later.

DC2 - low dose aspirin, lots of monitoring & scans. BP started rising at 26 weeks, but kept controlled by meds. Hospitalised from 36 weeks. CS at term. Named them after DC1's consultant!

Was then advised that it'd be highly likely that I'd get it again. Fortunately, we only ever planned to have 2 DCs.

Forgot to add the family member who was told not to have another baby actually did have a 3rd baby and went on to have a stroke after the birth which left her disabled for the rest of her life. I can see why the doctors advised against that pregnancy.

SuzieBishop · 16/11/2019 11:45

I had the scary preeclampsia that only showed itself while I was in labour - everything was fine then suddenly my blood pressure shot up and the room filled with people. I was pretty out of it but my husband said it was worrying. I’ve gone on to have another baby - I had an elective section to avoid a repeat.
