Risk assessment work do

Hi

We are having a xmas do this year and are attending an event place for a couple of hours before going out for dinner. There are more than 5 of us.
Trying to figure out what we need to do is driving me nuts!
We won't be coming from work but going from home straight to the event, and will be going home after dinner.
Do we have to do risk assessments? I've asked the venue for a copy of theirs but not got a response at all. Surely we don't do risk assessments for dinner places? I'm so confused! But obviously we are responsible employers and want to get this right.

Thank you

Do any of your employees have medical conditions or disabilities that make you think you need one? It seems really OTT to me.

Surely it's the job of the establishment you're attending to have done risk assessments?

If you are going out to dinner and not doing extra activities at an established restaurant them out would be low risk and hence would not require a written risk assessment.
The most you could do anyway would be to check they have a food safety certificate!
If you are adding in 'team building' type events or having it in your office them that changes things
(I'm a H&S professional)

Sorry just realised you are going to an 'event'place. Depends what the event is.. Your risk assessment at most would say.. ensure they have a risk assessment in place. And check suitability for any disabilities.
Really depends on the event... High rope course compared to knitting

All depends on the type of pre-dinner event, the attendees and whether it's outside of what you'd normally do at work. Venues will have health & safety procedures in place but not necessarily risk assessments. If it's a work do (ie work are asking you to do this or providing it) then it's down to you or someone at your workplace to assess the risks based on the activity / activities and attendees. Showing you've put some thought into it beforehand and taken steps to mitigate any identified risks may help if something does happen on the day.

Do you have a standard risk assessment form at work? I would also ask the venues for their public liability insurance certificate and their h&s procedures.

Is it skydiving for the over 60s?

BarbaraofSeville · 14/11/2019 09:51

You don't have to do a risk assessment for a social event, surely?

Hi
As a Health, Safety and Security Manager for the NHS I can confirm that a risk assessment for your outing will not be required. The establishments that you'll be visiting are required to have appropriate insurances and their own risk assessments by law in compliance with the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. Just worry about going out and having a great time folks Smile

This is what I needed to hear! Thank you
I was finding it so hard to work out if there was a legal requirement to do something.
It's escape rooms and one of our staff is worried about confined spaces. Having been I think it's fine but will report on having identified the potential problem and having a plan to get her out if she needs to.
I promise I'm not trying to make a drama out of nothing, but I want to do things correctly that's all :-)
Thank you for your help
