Manchester areas

I'm getting divorced in the new year. I live in rural wales but want to move to Manchester once my divorce is finalised. I've visited the city many times but don't really know about the different areas. Where would be a nice place to live ? Easy access to city centre , reasonable rent costs.

Is it just you or are there children with you? Schools make a difference to the answer.

Where will you be working (if you are)? Commuting times can be painful so you'd need to consider that.

@DisplayPurposesOnly it'll be just me. I'll be looking for work once I move (probably retail).

East Manchester- Ashton, Droysden, Newton heath I will ok kind of areas relatively cheap rent for the amount of space you get over Tameside council council tax is quite high by comparison to Manchester

Chorlton (cum Hardy) is very popular now have lots of Fantastic bars and places to eat but this reflects a price on rent it's getting very expensive round there now

Urmston , stretford, flixton. Again is reasonable price in rent in most areas and relatively low costs and council tax not huge amount of pubs or places to go out though.

All three groups of areas are within easy commute either by bus tram or car to the city centre

Chorlton or Didsbury would be hard to afford on retail wages. A 1 bed was £500 quid 10 years ago. Newton Heath is Manchester and parts of Gorton are improving greatly too. Living in Manchester city boundary would give you opportunity for various role at the Council if you wanted a change from retail.

Stretford and Urmston are easy reach to the Trafford Centre as well as Manchester City Centre. Trafford council tax is lower too. Lots going on in Stretford and it's on the Metrolink to Sale as well as Manchester. Flixton and Urmston are a bit less buzzy but do have a train to the city centre however Northern are increasingly unreliable.

On these types of threads there are always lots of recommendations for South Manchester which can be very expensive in some areas ,North Manchester can be a lot Cheaper it's very easy to get to the city centre from Bury on the tram .

Wigan is affordable with good transport links to Manchester centre.

I live in Urmston and recommend Stretford for proximity to Trafford centre and rental likely to be more than north Manchester.

Worsley? Monton? Eccles?
