Help me stay awake! Newborn feeding in my arms..

After going 9 days overdue I delivered my lovely DS2 earlier on this evening.
DP is sleeping and farting in the chair of doom and I'm doing my best to keep my eyes open and not fall asleep whilst feeding the new guy.

Please talk to me so I stay awake!!

Congratulations!

Congratulations!!! I Remember the midwife telling me this is baby putting their order in 😊 have you got Netflix? I watched a lot of that during night feeds to keep me awake

guineapig1 · 14/11/2019 02:36

Ah! Huge congratulations! I remember the relief and exhaustion only too well. Don’t be shy about waking your DP and making him chat and/or sending him in search of tea/coffee! If you’re in your own room pop the tv or radio on too - that always helped me stay a bit more alert.

Thank you all!

On an side ward (though only one other lady here) so cant watch/play anything sadly and my headphones are out of reach - I've forgotten all these golden rules already!

Reading MN and looking at his squishy little face in the dark though so not all bad.

I found scrolling mumsnet useful for this! Congratulations ! Give DP a kick.

Once feeding established, it is well worth learning the art of feeding laying down.

TheVelvetOnion · 14/11/2019 03:09

Congratulations!!

My baby is only 6 weeks old and I'm struggling with staying awake too Smile I find the only thing that helps is getting up out of bed and walking about for a minute. I also have a drink of cold water too. I hope you manage to get some sleep soon!

VanillaLatteAndCake · 14/11/2019 03:31

Online shopping helps to keep me awake although this has been detrimental to the bank account! Now Xmas is round the corner, it's my excuse for the numerous parcels arriving each day! Shock

Bluewavescrashing · 14/11/2019 03:33

Next feed ask a midwife to help you latch your baby on lying down and tuck you both in. It's lovely. I didn't manage to bf for long but I remember this.

NabooThatsWho · 14/11/2019 03:34

Definitely feed lying down! (Obviously done safely). Makes it a million times easier.

TrashKitten10 · 14/11/2019 03:36

Congratulations! Writing this whilst feeding my 2 week old and trying to keep alert myself :) hope you don't need to stay in for too long and can get comfy and settled at home soon.

LookAtWhatYouCouldHaveWon · 14/11/2019 03:37

Oh huge congratulations OP! Aw, nowt lovlier than a brand new baby. Enjoy your squishes xxx

MrBobLobLaw · 14/11/2019 06:01

Up again! Managed an hour or so of sleeping on and off whilst DP watched him on my boob/me on my side/tried to settle him in the cot.

Feeling a bit more rejuvenated and v much in love with this little (nearly 9lb!) bruiser. Born in the water too. God bless gas and air is all I can say!!

Discharged and got home today. Toddler didn't immediately tell us to return baby bruvva to the hospital so I'm chalking it up to a win.

Anyone else going to be up for the night feeds tonight?
Going to need more solidarity again - only managed about 2 hrs of broken sleep since yesterday afternoon!

No more night feeds here, OP, but many congratulations and good luck! Hope you’ve got a good snack tray at the ready for overnight Smile

megletthesecond · 14/11/2019 23:07

Is he asleep now? (If so turn off your phone and rest!)
Have you got everything you need in the room?
