Similarities between teaching and nursing

Are there any? If so, what are they?

Both professions are expected to do more and more with less and less support. Both are exhausting. In both, you have to deal with people at their most vulnerable. Both get blamed for lots of things that aren't necessarily their fault.

Why do you particularly need to compare those two?!

Differences
Term time hours/shifts
Nature of the actual jobs

Similarities
Degree entry jobs
Both on incremental pay scales which it’s difficult to earn well on any more.
Micromanaged
Stressful
Lots of hours
Not enough staff
Blamed for the ills of society (maybe less nurses for this one)

@fedup21 I currently work in a school (although not a teacher) but have often thought about nursing in the past so just wondered

In both professions you can have meaningful interactions with other humans and make a huge difference to their lives.

You can make vulnerable people's lives better.

Both must have huge job satisfaction as you're helping others.

I have a lot of time and admiration for both professions as you can tell Smile

So sorry I killed your thread OP!

Ohfrigginghellers · 16/11/2019 17:24

@MontyBowJangles thanks for responding.
I think you are right. I wonder if when people are deciding on a career where they want to help people both professions come under their radar.

a big difference is that teachers take A LOT of work home, nurses don't
teachers can't choose when their holidays are, nurses can to some extent, similarly teachers hours very predictable, nurses not usually

Toddlerteaplease · 16/11/2019 17:45

When my shift is over. I walk off the ward, and my time is my own!

The general public think they can do either job better than them and will complain at the most ridiculous reasons. See lots of threads on here.
