Any advice on driving lessons?

Hi all,

I do my driving lessons in 2 hour increments (which I much prefer). This weekend I have my 5th &6th. The driving instructor has said I have a big problem with the gas (I press down too hard) and I keep forgetting to put the clutch down and I can't find the biting point to start driving 😩 I'm a perfectionist so I hate not being good at something, yet I can't seem to grasp these things! Any advice??

How do you find the biting point, by feel or hearing? Tell your instructor you want a few practices getting it right.

Meant to be feeling it but I can neither hear nor feel it 😬

You need to explain that to your instructor definitely, you won't sound silly, you'll feel so much more confident when you've got the biting point nailed down.

I just hate not being good at things I want to do 😬 bit of a perfectionist and I feel like this will take ages to get right

Are you doing your driving lessons in a diesel or petrol? My instructors car was diesel and mine was petrol, I found it much easier to find the biting point with the petrol.

Sadly it will just take practice. My advice would be to practice taking off in first slowly, moving your foot off the clutch as you press down your foot on the accelerator in tandem. If your foot is half pressed on the clutch and half pressed on the accelerator and the car isn't moving... Congratulations. That's the biting point.

Good luck.

When I learnt to drive the instructor made me wear shoes with a thin sole for the same reason
