As the title says really. I am in my mid-20s, fit and well but with an extensive history of heart problems.

Been in CCU since Sunday night, just been moved to a private room last night as was in a ward with 3 elderly men.

Waiting on all kinds of tests - CT, angiogram and MRI and I am just really scared. I miss my DS who is being well looked after but still. Can anyone offer a handhold or voice of experience please? Sad

All the best and not long now til you're home with your ds again. It must have been so frightening for youSadFlowers

Flowers. Hope you are ok. Fingers crossed for going home Saturday.

I'm popping by to send flowers and a handhold. 💐💐 I had to have an angiogram earlier this year (also in West Yorks). I got myself extremely worked up before hand but in reality it was fascinating and the specialist was very lovely and calming! The only downside was the backache for a day or two after from lying still for so long!

Take care xx

Hi op can't comment on the angiogram or heart aspect however I've had experience of hospitals/itu and the anxiety of being away from dc.
All you can do is take each hour as it comes, rest as much as possible and emotionally try not to bottle up your worries.
I do actually limit my visitors to immediate family only when in hospital to make sure I get the rest so that I can be as fit as possible on discharge for my dc.
What's your concentration like? Can you manage to read - I massively struggle with this when I'm ill so down load short stories or magazines to read. Can you get in to a TV series to distract yourself. Have you accessed any emotional support I know when I've been on itu they've always had a specialist nurse come talk through my care, let me know what to expect then they follow me up on the ward - sometimes I've not wanted to talk medical stuff and we've discussed the weather or something but nice to talk to someone not rushing off to the next patient. How's your family /dc coping it's hard for them to watch you go through these tough times. When my youngest two were 5 I had a particularly bad time we downloaded books written for children about my specific condition this helped them understand the situation age appropriately - we also made visits short but meaningful one day we all sat with vomit bowls on our heads because ds had decided we could all be the fat controller with bowler hats he had the nurses in stitches but it helped to make hospital not so scary for them too knowing I'd have other visits. Ds also had a fascination with hospital beds too felt like I was on a fair ground ride! But it got us through some dark times.
It's not easy but you'll get through it, seek support if you need it, say no to visitors if it's too much and know that you're in the best place for now getting the care you need.
Hope your feeling much better soon. Best wishes.

I clicked on this because I have just been given an invoice for €500 for tests for my 17 year old to have tests on their heart. They have had various but never serious heart issues over the years but nothing that ever went beyond a consultants visit or echocardiogram. So I was sitting here thinking: that's so much money, how will we afford it? Do they really need it? It's a really expensive reassurance test.

I am in Ireland and very much so feel that a lot of medical stuff is a racket. Btw I have private healthcare and still I pay for everything. Without insurance it would cost me €650.

Anyway having read your shocking story I am going to pay for these tests and make sure they happen and I will not complain about the price out loud again.

I hope you make a full recovery and I do know of two young (older than you but still under 40) people who had heart attacks and went on to live without another health blip to their 70's (still alive). So I hope, for you, this will will be the beginning and the end of your ill health.

Your heart is so important, the tests are definitely worth it! We are very lucky to have the NHS, I have waited around a bit and had periods of intense boredom but the care I have received has been fantastic.

The nurse just fetched me a gown and sexy pair of knickers (Wink) to wear in the morning. The Sister is coming back to a questionnaire. Everything seems to be done late at night....

I have only had my DP, DM and a friend come to visit. They have been very generous with their time. My DS has been in once, hes only 3 so it was difficult for him to see me here and not leave. He is having a great time with his dad and his granny though.

Free wifi, netflix, books, puzzles etc have kept me from going mad.
