Vitamins - do they work?

Some say that vitamins are pointless and are simply expelled by the body. But it's a huge market all the same.
Has anyone taken a specific vitamin and noticed a positive difference in their wellbeing? I'm trying to sort out my health a bit.
(Obvs I'm eating lots of fruit and veg as a starting point!)
I'm 42, a bit overweight and have recently had patches of eczema flare up on my face.

For B vits in general I highly recommend Solgar B Complex Extra High Potency.

My DD & I both have pernicious anaemia & hEDS, so have needed to supplement various vitamins, minerals & herbs & have tried everything over the years. We now take this for B vits as it has a complete dose of all of the important ones & we've found it way better.

It has a full dose of B6: which as someone says above is great for any menstrual issues, including PMT & I can vouch for this helping as without it, DD was a demon with almost reversed periods. We can all breath again thanks to B6Grin

As someone else mentions, you can overdose on some vitamins & minerals & B6 is one of them. DD started it under guidance of our GP who recommended it & we were told 100mg is the maximum recommended dose, but slightly more is okay, but not much more. DDs iron pills (Ferroglobin) also contain a small amount of B12, which her GP has okayed.

This looks expensive, but it works out cheaper & much easier to take than lots of pills. They do a good sublingual B12 in drops too.

Not exactly a vitamin but oil of evening primrose has really helped with my period related issues and as a side effect given me great skin and hair!

After years of infertility, I conceived after taking whacking great amounts of vitamin D daily for about 3 months. I was taking it for another reason, but it was the only thing we did differently, and we'd tried everything else.

Vitamin D for me made a good difference

Fuckmyliferightnow · 13/11/2019 20:51

@RockinHippy I'll look thanks.
I take the D3 and in the past the oil caps did the same.

I take vitamin d, c, a multi vitamin, probiotic, turmeric and black pepper (latter two in one pill) and have b12 injections at the doctor as I don’t absorb it at all.

The turmeric is a new one taken as a punt since getting hand and knee pain since having my baby. It’s been a game changer.

I don’t know if the d makes a difference but I take it anyway. And the rest of it might be to thank for the very short duration on a stinking cold I had a couple of weeks back. Yes I caught it but it was gone quickly.

I’m breastfeeding, having an extremely stressful time with a sick DH in hospital and I’m exhausted from nowhere near enough sleep. But I don’t feel run down or as crap as I imagine I could at the moment so I’ll keep popping the pills and hope they help.

Another fan of better you Bit d and K2. I also take their Vit B12. I take the Vit D daily and then top up once a week with an ultra high dose.

I take inositol for my PCOS instead of metformin. It's amazing and has dramatically cut my cystic acne, regulated my cycle and reduced symptoms like severe ovulation pain.

I also take vitamin D through the winter and B12 and iron because I barely eat any meat.

Yes, ditto for turmeric as it supports a healthy inflammation response, overall. One thing to note is that absorption is challenging, and hydro-soluble forms will absorb better.
