Hair disaster

The first one is me and the second one is what I wanted. To be honest the picture makes it look better. It looks grey in most lights. I literally look like I'm wearing a Halloween wig. I have a wedding the weekend after next. Is it possible to get it dyed again that quickly (it would have to be this Friday/sat)? I'm feeling really down about
it, but I don't want to destroy my hair even more if dying or so soon after is going to ruin my hair. Anyone been in the same situation?

What about going to another hairdressers and asking for a nice rich chestnut type toner.

PennyGold · 14/11/2019 06:35

I'd complain to the hairdresser.. just send the photo you've taken against the one you wanted (it really does look awful) and ask if they can fix it, and if not ask for money back to pay a different hairdresser to fix it.

YeahNahWhal · 14/11/2019 06:36

I had a similar disaster recently. I bought a pink toning shampoo, one that you leave on for 3mins in the shower. It's given me a temporary rose gold colour in the highlights, which blends better. Lasts 2-3 washes only, so I do it when I have an event. 6wks down the line, the harshness is starting to settle. Hang in there.

I forgot to mention.. if nobody can fit you in for the correction before the wedding, and you're reluctant to dye it yourself. Have a look at them 'grey root sprays' they're not permanent and they do a range of colours.
I'd try using that's to see if you could darker the grey streaks as temporary fix (make sure you try it before the wedding).

MiaFarrowsWheelbarrow · 14/11/2019 07:00

I understand this problem. I spent £140 and 9 hours in total at the hairdressers as I wanted some fine ash blonde streaks putting through my dark brown hair so I could start to grow my greys through slowly. I ended up with uneven chunky highlights and my hair condition was wrecked. I stuck it out for about 6 weeks before I gave in and have had an all over colour put back on. The problem was 50/50. I was never comfortable with the highlights and didn't feel "myself" and I hadn't been given what I had paid for as promised.

Disappointed but lesson learned.

Fairylea · 14/11/2019 07:07

Get a brown / light brown L’Oréal Casting dye - that will cover it and will wash out gradually. It really isn’t bad at all, I know it isn’t what you wanted but lots of people pay to have their hair like that!

Booboostwo · 14/11/2019 07:39

It looks fine in the photos but I can imagine what you mean about being a harsher contrast in real life. There is a fashion for a harsh contrast between a body of dark hair and ash blond highlights that you see a lot in Mediterranean countries. My mother had that look for decades in Greece and it does make the highlighted bits look white so I wonder if they did something similar to your hair.

I would imagine it would be fairly easy and quick to add more colour to the highlights. Go back or try another salon.

Timetobegood · 14/11/2019 07:43

Although it doesn’t look grey in the photos, I had the same with ash blonde highlights looking grey against dark hair. It did fade slightly over several weeks but I finally got rid of it with a semi permanent colour all over and it was fine.

WhoAreThey · 14/11/2019 07:46

Oh OP this happened to me. She asked me what I thought of the colour in the salon and I was honest and said not great, it looks grey! (Then I left the salon, tied it up and cried)

She said that was because it was the first time I'd had it done or something and after 3 or 4 washes it would warm up (??) I've no idea what she was talking about really but washed it loads and it did! The grey disappeared, went blonde and I ended up really liking it. Hope similar happens for you.

expatinspain · 14/11/2019 08:37

I went and spoke to a hairdresser (in my best
B1 level Spanish 😂) and they're going to fix it for me tomorrow morning. I used to go to this salon and they're amazing, but pretty expensive. Lesson learnt. I'll spend the money in future and avoid this happening again!!

That looks lovely
I’ve screen shotted it to take to my hairdresser, hope you don’t mind

timeforawine · 15/11/2019 11:05

That looks gorgeous!

SexIsAProtectedCharacteristic · 15/11/2019 11:08

That is much better! Looks lovely.

Booboostwo · 15/11/2019 11:09

Lovely chestnut tones!

PuppyMonkey · 15/11/2019 11:10

Your new do is gorgeous OP.

The first effort looks like what I used to have 10-15 years ago, “slices” is what they were called back then. I think hairdressers are just doing exactly the same technique and calling it “balayage” now - I bet lots haven’t even been trained on the new methods.Grin

expatinspain · 15/11/2019 11:24

Puppymonkey In this area of Spain, definitely not!! The colour I had today was free painted, which I guess is Balayage, but just fine by someone who can actually colour hair!!

Hoppinggreen Of course not! I hope they do a good job. Mine was done with two different chocolate shades.

Thanks everyone. I'm so happy and relieved!! At least I'm not going to be hiding in the photos at the wedding I'm going to next weekend 😅
