Can anyone help identify this rash?

Hi, my 4 year old daughter has come up with a rash in the last week. We haven’t used any new soaps/washing powders/changed anything in her diet. It’s over her bottom and legs, the part on her bottom is really itching her, the rest isn’t bothering her. She has come up with a few spots today too. Oilatum isn’t shifting it. I did wonder about eczema but she has never suffered from it previously. Any advice welcome. Thank you.

No idea was going to say eczema.
I would go to the pharmacy and see if they have any advice, hope it clears up soon

Smashedavocados · 12/11/2019 21:14

Thanks for your reply @yellowitsme . Will get her to the chemist and see what they say.

Looks like eczema to me, behind the knees is a classic place to get it along with inside of the elbows.

QueenofPain · 12/11/2019 21:37

It really does look like eczema.

Smashedavocados · 12/11/2019 21:40

Thank you both, seems unanimous! Will check with the chemist and see what they can recommend for it then.

Has she recently started wearing tights to school? My dd used to get a similar rash, sort of eczema ish but it was because she struggled with certain fabrics and switching to tights in winter made her itchy and sweaty.

whitesockss · 12/11/2019 21:41

Yep, eczema

You need hydrocortisone 1% cream, can buy OTC and apply very thinly twice a day.

Apply emollient cream an hour after the hydrocortisone to stop it being diluted

Should clear up in a few days, then just keep moisturising her lots!

whitesockss · 12/11/2019 21:41

Should add I'm a pharmacist!

Smashedavocados · 13/11/2019 07:02

Yes @Drinkciderfromalemon, she started school in September and has been wearing tights and I did wonder if they may irritate her, perhaps I can try a different type of tights. Thank you @whitesockss, your advice is greatly appreciated! I will get to the chemist and buy some hydrocortisone 1% cream, hopefully that will do they trick!

I don't want to freak you out, but it could be scabies. It starts in places like elbow and knee folds.

Smashedavocados · 13/11/2019 07:27

Shock eww. Will take her to the chemist.

I second the eczema votes. My dd is almost 4 and has the exact same thing behind her knees. I used olitium it did nothing for behind her knees but it seemed to get rid of smaller patches she had on her belly. I use the hydrocortisone cream for behind her knees and it clears it right up. She usually outbreaks when the weather gets colder. Through the spring and summer months she doesnt have it at all.

QueenofPain · 13/11/2019 08:46

Deffo not scabies as they leave little tracks where they have burrowed under the skin.

whitesockss · 13/11/2019 11:02

That is not scabies!!!
