Blocked Ear, any advice?

Hi All,

I’m quite prone to getting my ears blocked, according to the ENT specialist I have very small ear holes Blush

It happened again this morning and usually with a bit of messing around I can get my hearing back but it’s been gone all day. The only thing that seems to ease it is having my ears suctioned at the hospital but I’ll have to wait ages for an appointment.

I have tried olive oil and it makes zero difference, does anyone else have any home remedies to try and help me hear again?!

I can remember holding my nose tightly closed and then breathing hard. It seemed to sort of clear the block

Try a nasal decongestant, the kind you spray up your nose. I'm not a medical expert so I can't explain the science behind this, but I can tell you it works for me

Don't stick anything down your ear or use those candle things. You could do more harm than good

Regarding the nasal decongestant, don't spray it in your ear. Use it up your nose the regular way. I just realised my previous post was unclear 😂

My 17 year old son has a lot of problems with a blocked ear. His ENT consultant recommended this... www.otovent.co.uk/buy-otovent/otovent-adult/ it has helped him.

Oh this is great, thank you all for your recommendations. I’m off to the pharmacy now and hopefully one of these will sort it!

DH suffers with easily blocked ears. He sees a guy privately who suctions them out. It's about £60 but is very much worth the money..

Butterflycookie · 12/11/2019 18:54

I think you can get it done privately. I believe specsavers do them

TheHootiestOwl · 12/11/2019 19:07

A lot of places suction privately now, opticians and places.

Another vote for private suctioning. I pay £60 for two ears

My suction guy recommended using Earol regularly. The last time I got blocked I used this with gentle external massaging and the wax did seem to dislodge.

DH was always complaining of blocked ears; GPs no longer do syringing, ear drops didn't work. Found a private clinic who micro-suctioned his ears, best £50 we ever spent!

That’s what I usually have done, but of course getting a doctors appointment to then be referred is going to take ages!

I didn’t realise I can get it done privately so that’s what I’m off to look into tomorrow. Thank you :)
