How soon do you eat after d and v?

I have been spewing all night, and diarrhea tooans was last sick at 0530. I've still got a tummy ache but I am considering a cup of tea or a Yoghurt now.

I always do this and dh thinks I am mad, but I don't normally start to feel better until I have eaten something.

Is a bit of a gamlbe of course

Is this particularly strange?

i would eat, but not tea or yogurt as dairy would be the worse culprits if still dodgy stomach.

Plain toast with marmite, or some salted crisps. Plain chicken with rice, chicken broth soup, maybe boiled egg by dinner time with toast if kept in plain stuff.
Drink lots of water, and herbal tea without milk to help flush out toxins

It will probably go either way but I don’t think tea and yoghurt is anything too distressing! I imagine after a few sips/bites you will know if it’s ok or not! I’m always starving when I have D&V! Toast/crackers is the usual advice

One of dhs issues is that I choose things with dairy. I couldn't stomach toast or anything savoury. I could go for a coke though.

At least 12 hours after the last episode of d or v. You need to let your gut rest and recover. Plenty of liquids, with some salt and sugar added will keep you going.

And no no no to anything dairy.

JemilyJ · 12/11/2019 09:06

Normally I would try to leave it 24 hours for food but may swap to sugary drinks to help feel better a few hours after my last bout (coke, lemonade etc).

Last time I had it so bad I didn’t eat anything from Friday night to Monday lunchtime. Then spent Monday eating one plain cracker at a time. Took me a week to feel up to a normal meal.

Mrsjayy · 12/11/2019 09:09

Have a cola full sugar replace your sugars you lost and coke is good if you have had the runs.

amusedbush · 12/11/2019 09:10

Don't have dairy but coke will be fine. I'd try to get a bit more sleep in and see what you can stomach around lunch time.

dementedpixie · 12/11/2019 09:12

I would normal start with tea and toast. Crackers, digestive biscuits, etc ok too. I would still put milk in tea, cant drink it black

ffswhatnext · 12/11/2019 09:13

Some say flat coke helps. Not sure if its bollocks or not. But avoid dairy it will just send you straight back to the toilet.

I eat when the D part stops, I can hold down sips of water and have no stomach cramps/pain. Then its something dry - toast, cracker, biscuit etc.

I find eating too early just makes it all start again.

Mrsjayy · 12/11/2019 09:17

An old Gp of mine recommended flat coke ive always done it,

sewinginscotland · 12/11/2019 09:19

Only you can tell what settles your stomach. I usually go for toast as soon as I think I can eat it without vomiting. If you throw up, then at least there's something to throw up rather than bile Grin

Mrsjayy · 12/11/2019 09:19

After ive stopped being ill I always crave ready salted crisps so that is what I have crisps and cola healthy or what

itsboiledeggsagain · 12/11/2019 09:26

I've had a Yoghurt with raspberries and got a coke and ice. Dh delivered it with his customary lecture. Grin

I did the same in labour. Ate and chucked up then carried on eating. My tummy does not like to be empty.

Just when I feel hungry.

itsboiledeggsagain · 12/11/2019 13:38

I've now had a bowl of cocopops and some paracetamol. I still feel dreadful but not like I am going to be sick
