Here we go round the Mulberry Bush ... saving the Mulberry Tree

Did you know that the actual 500 year old Mulberry Bush of nursery rhyme fame still exists in Tower Hamlets? BUT this dear old tree, which has survived so much, is in grave danger of being destroyed by developers planning to move it which will conveniently and surely lead to its death.

If mums everywhere would like this precious old tree saved and happily hear our children sing the nursery rhyme then please share and ideally contact:

How can a tree of that significance not have a TPO?

Hepsibar · 11/11/2019 17:45

If all else fails, they could take a cutting and make seedlings and replant as they have done with another famous mulberry.

Are you sure?
Folklore and also Wikipedia say that the original one was in HMP Wakefield. Women prisoners were held there many years ago and their children went with them. They played games around the tree.
Unfortunately it died a couple of years ago but cuttings were taken and it is hoped to be replanted.

Hi Raera, yes someone else said the Wakefield one was the one too, but even if this is so, this is a dear old ancient tree and so hopefully if it has to be moved, they can take cuttings and replant. Let's hope they do this.

Other people are pretty sure this dear old tree is very historic and if you'd like to sign the petition to save it, would be marvellously positive thing to do:
