How should I read this?

There's a dad at my DC's school, he has 2 SDC and a DD, he's with their DM, he's been flirting with me, saying I look like Sophia Loren etc.

I'm autistic and married and don't know whether to feel threatened or just laugh it off. How can I tell if he's seriously after me or not?

if you are married ... does it matter? just dont engage with him.

Sherloidbaisherloid · 11/11/2019 09:37

Does it matter? You are married and he is in a relationship/married too

Solongtoshort · 11/11/2019 12:03

Do you look like Sophie Loren ? I would probably just assume he is being flirty and roll your eyes and tell him he looks like a dick.

My brother flirts all the time and l have to tell him to stop, it embarrass me, his girlfriend and l can think of three women who believed they were going to to leave a party/ night out with him and was shocked to find out he had a girl friend. Some men are such fools AND l don’t know how his lovely girlfriend puts up with him, l wouldn’t.

I feel threatened, so it does matter. As I said, I'm not sure if I'm misreading him as I'm autistic.

Him being in a relationship and me being married just makes it worse, as it seems so inappropriate.

I look like Sophia Loren aged 52, with no makeup and sleep deprived. Grin

If you're uncomfortable tell him to leave you alone as you have enough friends?

namechange4052 · 11/11/2019 12:12

I would shoot him down in a war that embarrasses me, but I hate men like him.

namechange4052 · 11/11/2019 12:13

Way, not war!

PhrightomenaButterfly · 11/11/2019 12:20

Froggle but what do I say?

On the basis of what you've explained here, anything you say to him is going to sound like an overreaction and probably cause more issues/embarrassment than it solves. Just don't engage with him

PhrightomenaButterfly · 11/11/2019 12:47

rottie you mean not talk to him at all? That might look weird if I talk to the rest of the family though. Confused

Well if you really feel threatened by some mild flirting, you'll either have to blank him or tell him directly to stop it.

PhrightomenaButterfly · 11/11/2019 12:59

Thanks for making feel like I'm overreacting Worra. I'm just worried about his intentions. I can't read him, I'm useless at reading people. If I'm pleasant, will he think it's a green light? Or is he just being friendly? How do people tell?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 11/11/2019 13:01

Just say "Those sort of comments make me uncomfortable". If you have to say this to him on three* separate occasions, he's either stupid or unkind. (I'm giving him some leeway here.)

WorraLiberty · 11/11/2019 13:05

Well you've stated that you don't know how to read the situation and yes, I do think you're overreacting.

Stop overthinking it and try burying your face in your phone at school pick-up time, or speak to another parent.

He probably has no 'intentions' at all. Some people just like to mildly flirt and there's nothing wrong with that. However, you've said it makes you feel threatened to yes, you either need to limit/cut contact or tell him.

ffswhatnext · 11/11/2019 13:08

Some situations can make you feel threatened.
Some people can make you feel threatened.
For me, once I feel threatened I stop engaging.
If they approach me and try to talk to me, I ask them to please leave me alone or any variation of that depending on the time.

Feeling threatened should never be considered as an over-reaction.

ChangedMyNameYetAgain · 11/11/2019 13:08

He's probably just being friendly and isn't aware it's making you uncomfortable. How about you reply with something like " Thanks. My husband looks like [chunky hunky filmstar] "
or " I'm sure you mean well, but I'm married"

PhrightomenaButterfly · 11/11/2019 13:43

Thanks Display, that's very helpful.

OP posts:
PhrightomenaButterfly · 11/11/2019 13:47

Changed he knows I'm married, the filmstar reply might work though. I may also be creeped out because he reminds me of someone else who was creepy. I'm not sure.

namechange4052 · 11/11/2019 14:52

I don't think you are over reacting. Why should you have to put up with being made to feel uncomfortable by some sleazy school dad? Maybe a stony silence will get him told?
