Mrs Pig has kindly advised joining a golf club to meet a man! I've been single 5 years and and haven't met one I've got chemistry with ... yet!

Despite growing up in a very famous golfing town, I don't have the first idea what to do. Do I amble up and just ask to join or is there a vote? I know from driving around there is play as you go. But obviously have never played before, so how does that work?

I'm confident enough just walk up by myself and join. But are there classes for novices .... so many questions.

Please someone help me!!!

Thank you kindly!

If you have never hit a golf ball before, go to a driving range or golf club and ask to have a couple of lessons.

If you can confidently hit a golf ball, just go to a golf course, book a tee time and play. Teeofftimes.com is good for booking tee times, you don't need to be a member for any of the courses.

When you have played a couple of different courses and know golf lf is for you, go to a course and ask to join.

Not that many courses are exclusive, most you just need to pay the money and sign on the dotted line to play.

Thanks HMNCN, I have never hit a good ball, well crazy golf but don't think that help my handicap. I know jargon cos of where I used to live haha

So just roll up and ask at reception, then google around and try a couple?

Can you go into the club after your lesson or do you need to be a member. What kit would you wear? Would they lend you shoes, I seem to remember you need special spikey ones.

You need to be a member to go into the club house, and usually there is a waiting list for people to join if it is a good club/golf course. Do you know anyone who can second your membership for that club ? But most importantly have you thought about the cost of the yearly membership and secondly do you actually like golf ?

I would start off by booking a private lesson with the club pro at a course near you. In advance of that, just look at the current membership options and costs, as the clubs are competing with each other for new members in some areas. So some will be offering great deals.
Once you have a few lessons one on one you will have an idea if it is something you might like to get into.
Then you can join if you find one that you're happy with. Check the rules and etiquette first as some have strict dress codes etc, in the clubhouse and on the course.
Some clubs have designated ladies days, where you have priority tee times and course access.
The old school way of joining was you had to be nominated by a couple of existing members, although I'm not sure that still applies. Certainly not at most clubs I would imagine. Hope that helps

Would definitely recommend looking up online to see if you local council has a municipal course.

SisterhoodOfKahn · 11/11/2019 00:11

Hmmm thanks. Yes I probably could get someone to second me into a good club. Depending on cost!! Have no idea what the cost is. I live in a very posh 'shire, so probably high.

I'm sure I will like it. There's not a sport I don't enjoy. Well maybe not football, I'm crap at that.

This is great advice thanks so much!!

Mrs Pig great advice there too!! So what about that initial lesson. What would I wear?

Good tip about the municipal one. Thanks!

Well it looks posh joining fee is £600 with membership nearly £2k

Bit more fucking expensive that's match.com

Google getintogolf which is a website for beginners and will show the closest club to you that does it. They will do weekly group lessons that are quite reasonable and you can decide if you like it. They'll usually lend you equipment to begin with as well as my club aren't too fussy about dress codes to begin with, just wear a polo shirt, trousers and trainers. It'll give you the chance to meet other beginners and then you will have other people to play with once you progress to playing a round on the course.
