Drove car through big puddle of water

Hi, I had a nightmare journey yesterday when the a1 northbound was closed. The diverted traffic was hardly moving and desperate to get home I tried an alternative route. Anyway one of the roads was closed due to a large puddle of water but some cars were still going up and down so I decided to drive through it too. It wasn't that deep and my car seems fine but now I'm really worried I might have damaged it. Would it be a good idea to get my car looked at to check for damage? Thank you. Ps I know i was foolish to drive through but I was driving somewhere I'd never been before and there were signs for alternative routes. Thank you.

Thank you all for your replies and advice. In response to one of the questions, I'm not sure how deep it was as I didn't check the depth before driving through, but it didn't seem that deep. I had to do a long car journey today and the car, thankfully, seemed fine but I will try out the breaks tomorrow with an emergency stop. I feel reassured after your replies so thank you. If something went badly wrong with my car, I'd be in a real mess as I don't have the money to fix it.

I drove into a huge puddle on a dark road a few years back. It was so deep my feet got wet and it took a week for the car to dry out.
I reversed out of it when I realised it was so deep.
Car worked fine though and no problems later on.
Hopefully yours will be ok too.

Thank you booellesmum I'm reassured knowing that your car was fine after driving through such a deep puddle.

If water gets in to the ECU or wiring system that will cause big problems. If everything seems fine then hopefully you're ok

If the water was deep enough to cause a problem it would have happened immediately. If it is now a week later, there should be no problem.

Yes, you would have known pretty quickly if you had a problem. If you carried on driving normally afterwards you don't have a problem.

If you didn't have any issues at the time and haven't noticed any problems I wouldn't worry about it too much. Damage to the engine or braking system would have been noticed by now. Flood damage to other things, such as increased rusting, is more from when the car is parked in a flood for hours, not driven through for a few moments.

You may find you have a musty smell in a few days. Check the spare wheel well. I didn't dry mine out immediately and there was a pong for a fortnight.
