Why does the word 'pupdate' give me the rage?

On the advert for sponsoring a guide dog...every time they say 'pupdate' it gives me irrational rage and makes me not want to give them any money. Why?

Oh I love my pupdates for the puppy I’m sponsoring - and saying pupdates on the email I get makes me smile as I know exactly what it is when I’m scrolling through the endless junk emails

ScreamingCosArgosHaveNoRavens · 10/11/2019 11:58

Ha ha! I think it's quite sweet. I think Dogs' Trust use the term too.

WorraLiberty · 10/11/2019 11:58

I love 'pupdates' Grin

Honeyroar · 10/11/2019 11:59

What does it mean?

noblegiraffe · 10/11/2019 12:00

Oh you need to see Ed Gamble’s stand up show Blood Sugar on Amazon Prime.
He does a big bit about sponsoring a guide dog and pupdates.

LemonScentedStickyBat · 10/11/2019 12:01

OP, me too. It makes me feel like I am a bad person, but at least I’m not alone!

Bibbidybobbidybastardingboo · 10/11/2019 12:01

I love it - I've not heard it before but think it's cute. I also think it is slightly mean-spirited of you to be so judgy, particularly given the context, especially if it affects your decision to donate or not.

ScreamingCosArgosHaveNoRavens · 10/11/2019 12:01

What does it mean?

It's a newsletter telling you how your sponsored pup is getting on. An (p)update.

bellinisurge · 10/11/2019 12:11

Glad this is the worst thing in your life that you are getting enraged about.
Or does "give me the rage" mean something else.

Broken11Girl · 10/11/2019 12:12

Nah, it irritates me too, so cutesy and twee.

flowery · 10/11/2019 12:15

It is a bit ‘miserable so-and-so’ to get worked up about that, particularly in the context.

Think on the bright side. They could be referring to these dogs as ‘puppers’ or ‘doggos’

Bibbidybobbidybastardingboo · 10/11/2019 12:35

flowery Grin that makes me think of Peter Kay's Car Share.

"Are you both, erm, doggers?"

flowery · 10/11/2019 12:39
Grin
Pinkblueberry · 10/11/2019 12:42

I think it’s the way the person doing the voice over in the advert says it - like she’s just glossing over it like she’s embarrassed to have to say it out loud.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 10/11/2019 12:43

@bellinisurge it isn't the worst thing that's happening to me right now by a long shot but thanks for making a snap judgement there.

I do feel bad about it, it's such a good cause, but it just bugs the hell out of me and I wish I knew why. I think maybe it's because it sounds lime something they'd say on Paw Patrol and that really does drive me up the wall. Thankfully DS2 seems to have grown out of that now 🤞🏻

(I am pleased to report that despite the terms pupper and doggo appearing frequently on memes on my social media feeds, they don’t seem to have made it into my phone’s autocorrect.

icecreamsundae32 · 10/11/2019 13:35

It is annoying! @MyGhastIsFlabbered it def sounds paw patrol like... we are currently watching nick jnr which has "back to back pepisodes" (peppa pig episodes!) equally as annoying!

avocadoze · 10/11/2019 13:42

I’ve never been bothered by the name. It’s amazing what these dogs do, and I’m fascinated by the way the pups are trained.

Pupper and doggo could do with bleaching from the dictionary though. Particularly doggo.
