G Adventure travel company ?

Anyone been with them - what do you think of them?

I am a long standing customer of Explore and Exodus and the concept of small group adventure holidays. (Also like to be able to Join a small group tour, alone / without partner, where there is a mixture of friends, couples & singles travelling, and no single supplement).

Am planning a trip and G Adventure are the only company that do this particular tour at this particular date.

So would be interested to know anyone else's experience in this regard.

Not personally but my stepson has used them a few times and would highly recommend them. We were considering one of their 3 week tours from India to Nepal and it had great reviews. I chatted to an American couple that had done it and loved it. Can't remember why we decided not to go with it but it was nothing negative about G Adventures I do know that.

I haven't been with them but I rejected them for their dubious pricing. (Only looking at one particular trip.) You seem to need to book every other excursion as an add on to your trip. Which made it more expensive than Exodus.
I also don't like the G Adventures "moments" or special supported whatever. I find it very patronising towards the local population and a bit of a feel good fast for tourists. But that is just me.
I guess if you don't go to a 3rd world country it's probably not an issue...

Didn't see @Ylvamoon's post when I said thanks.

Can I ask what you're referring to be 'moments'?

I think it depends where you want to go. I know someone who has been with them and loved it. But never personally done it - as a pp said, the pricing model was a bit wonky ...

I’ve done two tours with them this year with my 18 year old DD ( as man doesn’t do walking lol ) - hiking in the Dolomites and going up Mount Toubkal , Morocco .
Am off to a short conference in HK next week then as ‘ I’m there ‘ will be flying up to Beijing to do their China Express tour .

We’ve enjoyed all their trips so far . Met some nice and interesting other travellers . Would thoroughly recommend .

Been with them twice and loved them. Didn’t find the pricing an issue at all. We added on 2 small excursions the second time we went because we definitely knew we wanted to do them. Our guide in India was incredible, lots of little extras and so much fascinating information about the places we were heading to or had just left.

The for good initiatives were excellent, two meals
In places we would never have found turned out to be the some of the best food we had. We met some of the young adults the projects helped and they told us how much they benefited from them. Women on wheels in Delhi also helps women set up a their own car service to enable them to work.

I honestly can’t recommended them enough. Everyone on both my tours felt the same and most have travelled with G more than once.

I was G Adventures a few years back to travel to Thailand solo. I was pleasantly surprised as most of us were 29/30ish (I think I did a classic tour? Island hopping) we saw the yolo tour out and about and it's a very young vibe so avoid that if your a bit older. I guess a lot rides on who you get to travel with, I shared a room with a women of a similar age and we had a good crack together.

Travelled with them (as a single traveller) around Indonesia and they were great. Didn't experience ylvamoon's issue with the costing at all. It enabled me to do things I probably couldn't have done alone, like walking in rural areas and climbing rural volcanos (not just the obvious Mt Bromo). Couldn't have done alone because you needed a car and I wouldn't have wanted to drive over there.

As part of the cost, we had accommodation, transport, a walking tour in each city, bike ride through paddy fields, hiked up two volcanos on separate days, tour around puppet makers, the old palace, a traditional gong makers etc. All included, but optional iyswim. The only things I paid for extra were a silver smithing course I did on one of the "free days" and tickets to see the Ramayana with shadow puppets one evening. Which is fair enough really: the show wasn't part of the trip, but they happened to be showing it when we were there so I took advantage!

Aridane it's wording like this: "Your G for Good Moment Mi Cafecito Coffee Cooperative Tour" .... It's a supported community project type thing probably set up for tourists .... As I said, it's a bit Hmm and just not me.

Aridane · 10/11/2019 19:57

I did do a Hmm at CEO (chief experience officer) Grin

Oh well - have bit the bullet & booked. Let's see how G Adventures compares with Explore and Exodus!

@Aridane How did you find Exodus? I'm considering a tour with them (alone), and I've never done a group tour before...

Aridane · 20/11/2019 09:38

Very good.

I travel solo in group tours with Exodus (and Explore) and find them very good.

There is usually a wide mix of people and ages, about half travelling alone and half with friends/ partners. Groups do tend though to have more women on them than men. (IIf you phone, they will normally give you a sense of the group make up.

I also do the room sharing with a stranger which works fine (one occasion apart) - I think perhaps because people who are prepared to share with strangers tend to be fairly considerate people
