Do supermarkets open for browsing on a Sunday?

Hi

Posting here rather than food shopping for traffic - sorry!

I am just wondering if supermarkets (specifically asda) open before 10 for browsing only? When I arrived last weekend at 10 there seemed to be alot of people already with full trolleys.. .

Feeling awful today with a stinking cold so would want to get the food shopping done asap and get back in the warm Grin

Most do, not sure exactly how early but I used to get to Sainsbury's at 9.45am on a Sunday and was sometimes waiting for the tills to open at 9.

I live in Scotland and supermarkets open as normal on a Sunday 😁.

Asda is usually half an hour before tills open. So my local opens at 10 and you can pay at 1030

When I worked at ASDA we opened at 9.30 for browsing but the tills didn't open until 10am.

Supermarkets open for browsing Shock

I'm also in Scotland where 24 hours means 24 hours. Tesco opened at midnight on the 2nd January and has been open ever since.

What's the deal with browsing? Is it so you can shop then race to the till to pay when the store officially opens?

I think many do this. We even used to do it at Woolworths before it closed. The idea being that the tills start ringing the moment the bell tolls ten and they don't lose ten/fifteen minutes where shoppers are just collecting their stuff. The staff aren't allowed to help you with enquiries either as it's seen as selling activity.
