Hi All, I found out I am pregnant on Monday. I'm 6+2. I've been feeling sick the past two weeks but over the last 48 hours everytime I have ate I can't seem to keep down. Especially my tea time meal. Even the smallest of meals. Can any give any hints or tips to help keep food down? X

Little and often, so very small portions more frequently works for me. It's horrible, I feel for you! You may soon find that some types of food are harder to keep down then others, it's trail and error to start with. All the best!

Anti sickness medication from your GP. Don't put up with it, you don't need to. Congratulations Thanks

@Nicecupofcoco thank you. I dont deal well with sick so I'll try a smaller plate with less food and see how that goes! X

@YouBoggleMyMind will they prescribe them so early on or will they make me wait until I book the midwife appointment? They wont let me do that until I'm at least 8-10 weeks either lol. Thank you :) x

Go see your regular GP, explain you're pregnant and they'll be able to give you something. Lots of different types of anti sickness meds too so if you don't get on with the first one, go back again. Good luck.

I started feeling sick in week 4 OP. I'm now week 7.

I rang up and got meds in week 4. Start early. You don't want to wait until you're really bad, that's not how they work.

If you look on the pregnancy sickness UK website - preganancysicknesssupport.org.uk they explain the anti-emetics really well and the risks of taking certain meds.

I'm on Promethazine and studies have shown no adverse effects arise from taking them. That's usually the first rung of anti sickness meds.

If I didnt take them, I would be being sick all the time. Bloody miserable!!

Ask for a female GP too - they tend to be more understanding.

Oh poor you. It's horrible. Truly horrible .
I have had severe HG with all my pregnancies.

With my first pregnancy, many years ago I was hospitalised at 6 weeks it was so bad. They are generally much better now. Go to your GP and DO NOT be fobbed off. If you get someone who doesn't understand this then go to another doctor. Anti-sickness tablets and perhaps injections in time if it doesnt get better.
Start thinking prevention. Eat eat eat. I know its probably the last thing you feel like doing (I had major food aversion) but absolutely anything you can face then eat it. And eat some more. Small amounts. But almost constantly.
When i had severe HG with my firstborn they always said that keeping sugar levels equal was good. By the time i was hospitalised with my 3rd many years later the thought was more to keep your sugar levels high. So forget healthy eating, get your sugar levels high and keep them there. Fizzy juice, sweeties, i liked sandwiches at one point, cherry cake.. melon saw me through a lot! Anything that you can face.

By my 4th I had a better idea (and also a bit of luck) and stayed out of hospital with constant eating and tablets/injections.
What do you fancy eating?
It is absolutely awful. And as someone who won't go through it again I don't envy you. But you will get through this. And maybe like me be crazy enough to do it again.
Sending a very gentle hug (while holding a bowl and your hair back)

When I ate I couldn't cope with thinking about food only way I could manage was to watch tv with ( non food related) programmes! Also tried ginger biscuits and all the usual tricks but ended up with antiemetics.

WeShouldOpenABar · 09/11/2019 19:23

Get the meds, I was told it is better to get them as early as possible

Deakim1509 · 09/11/2019 22:30

@Breathmiller thank you so much for your advice. I know I'm not alone in this. It's my first and probably will be my last too lol.

I am trying to eat little bits, but they are unhealthy foods which wont do me any good as I'm also a diabetic! So keeping my sugars high will probably do me more harm than good. Which is why I feel I'm fighting a losing battle.

The only thing keeping me from not feeling or being sick is diet coke and a bath at the moment. Not sure how long that will last so I do think a trip to the doctors is in order before it gets worse.

Need to feel better as on top of all this, I've been appointed supervisor at work this week too so more stress to add lol xx

@Deakim1509
Oh that does it make it so much harder.
I think definitely going to see the doctor sooner especially with your diabetes.

I do hope it eases. Its not easy and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
