Something I grew up thinking I'd never see. Along with things like the Good Friday Agreement, end of apartheid ...

I remember it going up and was always fascinated by it. Never dreamed it would come down in my lifetime. Visited a year later and there were still so many 'dead ends' eg roads, underground stations etc. Would love to see how they have been reconnected to the east. Must go again!

I was only thinking this week the anniversary must be coming, I'm surprised there's not been more about it, I'd expect to see some documentaries on at prime time or something. Has anyone seen anything?

Sadly, not everyone was quite so thrilled. One M. Thatcher of Westminster, apparently

In some European capitals at the time, there was a deep anxiety over prospects for a reunified Germany. In September 1989, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher pleaded with Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev not to let the Berlin Wall fall and confided that she wanted the Soviet leader to do what he could to stop it.[37][38]

"We do not want a united Germany. This would lead to a change to postwar borders and we cannot allow that because such a development would undermine the stability of the whole international situation and could endanger our security," Thatcher told Gorbachev.[37]

Last night or the night before there was a interesting programme interviewing people who lived through it, Including policemen, students, advocates of the system etc. Very interesting and footage I hadn't seen before. Can't remember the name or channel though!

I suppose people of Thatcher's age could be forgiven for being slightly alarmed at what a unified, prosperous Germany could do.

The wall coming down is one of my earliest memories. I can remember my mum making me watch it on bbc news and having no idea what it meant but I was only 5. I didn't realise the anniversary was today.

Love those photographs, Sleepy.

I remember seeing on the news and being really confused, because I knew absolutely nothing about there even being a wall.

Here's my feet.
