Hotel choc Velvetiser

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 09/11/2019 16:55

Hi all.
I'm looking at buying a hotel chocolat velvetiser but the cost of the flakes is putting me off.
Does anyone use it with chocolate powder eg Cadbury's drinking chocolate?

Thanks

Why would I apologise, I haven't in any way been 'mean' as you put it.

And employees? I very much doubt it, since you're clearly about 11. (Now, THAT was mean but I kind of think that's what you're after).

Anyhoo, you crack on trying to make something out of nothing, I won't respond further to your, frankly, embarrassing posts. I do feel a little bit sorry for you though.

GloGirl · 13/11/2019 19:03

This is on my very secret wish list! It looks so luxurious!

I would have thought that using a microplane grater on any nice palm oil free choc would work well? I was curious if I could make grated choc in bulk with the grater but of my food processor.

X0X0 · 13/11/2019 19:07

hot chocolate is actually very serious to me! I can't say why it's too outing

Is this a joke?

It does mildly amuse me when posters get arsey with each other over trivial things. Hot chocolate this time! Grin I bet the OP regrets bothering to post in the first place!!

Mrsasck · 13/11/2019 19:14

Have one. It's good but agree it's basically a pricey Nespresso frother but the DH is a sucker for HC and went hook, line & sinker for it. Wasn't a fan of hot chocolate as too thin/sweet from most powders but I really like the HC drinks. Plus, it looks swish which is why some people like it. However if you're not using the HC drinks, probably no need, and if you're not fussed about how it looks/not a HC die hard there are options.

*hotel chocolat = HC, as that might be confusing...

orangeteal · 13/11/2019 19:23

We are getting one, can't wait. I'm going to get FAT.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 13/11/2019 19:29

There are some utterly bizarre responses on here and I don't mean @SpiderCharlotte...

I have just this week discovered the joy of a Hotel Chocolat hot chocolate with cocoa whip. I loved them, ds didn't. Said it made him feel a bit sick.

I looked at the velvetiser and thought it eye wateringly expensive. I will just pop into the cafe for one every couple of weeks.

Sahej · 13/11/2019 19:37

I won't frog March you from the post as you've responded in a normal way whereas @SpiderCharlotte wrote the cost as if she/he is having a heart attack. For some reason she/he thinks it's ok to act like the office bully or the class clown

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 13/11/2019 19:39

Honestly I think it's you who is behaving like that. Your responses are bizarre Confused.

morriseysquif · 13/11/2019 19:49

@sahej, your comments are way off beam, it is hot chocolate, not Brexit. Grin

BackOnceAgainWithABurnerEmail · 13/11/2019 20:02

@Sahej it’s definitely you. HTH.

I have a lavazza milk frother which was £30 and does a good job. But all these things are a bugger to get properly clean as you can’t submerge and milk leaves a residue.

TheDropBear · 13/11/2019 20:02

Sunday Brunch recently tested 4 different hot chocolates, one of which was the velvetiser. The person said the most important part of making good hot chocolate is to use real chocolate. From that it seems like using powder with the machine would just give normal hot chocolate and be a waste of the machine.

The most popular one was actually this Paul Young recipe which has no special equipment and uses water.

orangeteal · 13/11/2019 20:14

@WendyMoiraAngelaDarling as gorgeous as the cocoa whip is, it makes me feel quite sick too!

thisisthetime · 13/11/2019 20:22

I love mine. I mainly use the sachets and they work best and taste the best. I love the temperature, you can drink it straight away and any hotter and sometimes the chocolate ends up burnt to me.

I do also use powder on occasion. It blends it fine as long as you weigh the proper amount. But it doesn’t taste as decadent. I was using a whittards one and there’s too much sugar in it for my liking. But yes, it’s possible. I’ve also tried other flakes but not liked them as much either.

orangeteal · 13/11/2019 20:27

Are the sachets the same as the pots HC do? (The £9 ish ones?)

DragonmotherKhaleesi · 13/11/2019 22:22

Gosh.....
I did do a search along with various other google searches on using powder in it. I couldn't find what I was looking for so posted on here!

Yes I know it's £100. If I wanted to use a pan and a whisk I wouldn't be looking at one.

I have 3 children who drink hot chocolate regularly, I would like them to continue with the powder as I think the quality of using the HC sachets would be lost on my 6 year old. I simply wanted to know if powders work in the machine for this reason. If they clogged it up or similar then I wouldn't bother.
I fully intend to use the HC stuff myself.

Thankyou to the posters who answered the question for me.

As you were.....

You don't have to use the sachets. You can use the tubs of hot chocolate from Hotel Chocolat too, which would probably work out better value. You have to use about 6 teaspoons of the hot chocolate.

blamethecat · 14/11/2019 05:36

I too use the Nespresso milk frother, mainly with HC chocolate flakes, it doesn't get particularly hot but it does mix the chocolate well. Also used other chocolate flakes but not powder.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/11/2019 07:17

M&S do flaked chocolate which could be another option for a quality product at probably less than hotel chocolat prices. I have a Christmas themed pack I bought reduced after Christmas last year.

I should be inspired to try some in the lidl hot chocolate maker that I never use.

VenusClapTrap · 14/11/2019 10:16

as I think the quality of using the HC sachets would be lost on my 6 year old.

My seven year old can totally tell the difference and really appreciates hot chocolate made with real chocolate rather than powder. He is a chocolate snob. I’ve raised a monster.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/11/2019 10:33

Another thing you could try is grating block chocolate, or getting the DC to do it - it sounds like at least one of them would be old enough to help out with this task, especially if the reward is a nice hot chocolate.

Most supermarkets sell value dark chocolate bars for about 30 pence, and the quality is really quite good. Certainly much better than Cadbury's shite.

Belindabelle · 14/11/2019 10:51

QVC are selling this along with 2 cups and 20 servings for £99. On easy pay too. I am almost certainly not getting one. I don’t think so anyway. Mind you it is freezing and snow is forecast so I might.

SleepingIsOverrated · 04/12/2019 17:52

OP the code HOHO gets you £10 off xx

KnickerBockerAndrew · 04/12/2019 17:59

This is the funniest thing I have ever read on here. Grin
