Job Advertised FT can I apply as PT?

The perfect, permanent job has come up at the large organisation where I have been working on an hourly paid basis. I exactly fit the person specification, I have wanted to have this kind of role at this particular place for years and I know I would be really good at it!

However, the post is advertised as being FT and I can only work PT as I am caring for DM who has dementia and studying for a qualification listed as 'desirable' in the person spec. There is no mention of PT applications or job share applications being welcome. I have emailed HR to ask if PT applications would be considered and have had no response. Would I be wasting their time if I applied, or is it worth doing?

I work in a university too - we'd be fine with accepting someone on PT hours for a FT role - that's how I got my job! As long as it wasn't a huge drop - I negotiated a four day week.

You could also suggest compressed hours, or some working from home if either of those options suit your situation and the role.

Didn't realise it was a teaching role sorry. How many contact hours? There might be some wiggle room there - a grad teaching assistant to cover one or two lectures, prep and marking at home, admin duties - what's the expectation on those?

Bluntness I honestly don't think they would think that a lecturer didn't understand that you can't teach eg 35 hours in 17 hours. In my 25 years experience at another similar institution it's really common for part timers to apply for full time positions and the job is offered to the best people which might mean one person, 2 or 3. If there is only one suitable part timer the uncovered hours will be topped up by hourly paid people and readvertised at some later point.

The reason why I am unsure how to proceed with this application is that it is in a slightly different institution and it does not mention in the advert that although it is FT they would consider PT applications.

Titchy the teaching hours in the advert are fully FT. I really don't think I could cover them all plus admin and marking, however flexible. I am doing 50 percent job atm and can't really do more. However I know there are GTAs and other visiting lecturers in the department who could pick up the rest.

So did you go for it, OP?

I think part of it will depend on how part time you want it to be. 30 hours would be more likely than 12 for example.
Is there a chance to a condensed week or flexi working?

Anyway you can stick out FT for a few months and request PT after a while?
