Wonder if anyone has any advice.
My 3yo daughter (3yrs 4m to be precise) was less keen to potty train than our elder daughter. Elder trained basically by herself, overnight when she started nursery ages 2yrs 2m and saw other kids doing it. Has hardly ever wet herself or had any accidents of any kind. Younger daughter just had no interest. We decided we should make the effort over the summer holidays when she was 2yrs 10m and it was a slog- lots of accidents, both kinds, seemingly unable to anticipate it.... just a lot of hassle compared to her sister (although I now realise elder one was the exception not the rule). She also seemed- and continued to seem- impervious to bribery. Won’t do it for a chart or chocolate buttons.
Anyway by the time we got to the end of the summer, about a month before her birthday she seemed to suddenly get it. And was dry/clean for around 3 months- at home, at nursery and at my MILs where she goes one day a week.
Then suddenly about a month/6 weeks ago she started randomly wetting herself. She had been wearing a pull up for bed that was previously dry but suddenly it was sodden again. Nursery suggested she might be sickening for something but didn’t seem to be and never became unwell. Took her to GP to get her urine checked- no infection or anything. Thought if we didn’t draw attention to it it might stop, so nursery would just replace wet pants and carry on. Then it started happening at home too (she’s here 4 days a week) and then at MILs. She doesn’t seem upset about it, it just happens and she’s like “oh no!” As if it’s a total shock to her.
For context she goes to nursery 2 days a week (where she’s gone since she was 1 and loves), at PILs one day a week (which she also loves) and doesn’t seem upset about anything- she’s a very happy, jolly kid. Doesn’t seem in any way unwell and we have no concerns about her in terms of development otherwise- if anything she’s ahead of where her sister was at this age in every other way... I think she’s potentially quite bright, can randomly do things like read basic words and count to 100 without much input, has an excellent memory.
We are totally stumped on this issue. She doesn’t seem much bothered by it but it’s driving us bonkers. To add to the problem she won’t now wear a pull up by day because “that’s for babies” but I’m washing about 400 pairs of pants a week. Should I be going back to the doctors? Ignoring it? Trying the star chart/chocolate buttons again even though she couldn’t care less?!
Thanks for getting to the end of this- all advice appreciated.
