Urgent employment advice please

If you are off sick and have asked your manager to email you the disciplinary policy , should they do so ?

Yeah she needs to put on her big girl pants and get on with it.

She just needs to keep her head down and phone away.

What did the letter that she signed say? Was it a written warning?

Unless she has been sacked she can see the policy when she goes back to work. As others have said in the mean time she just needs to get on with her work without looking at her phone.

Even if she successfully claimed the procedure wasn’t followed, they would just do the same thing again with better notice. Best to chalk it up to experience and move on. I’ve got a 21 year old who has just entered the workplace and they do find it difficult to adjust and there have been words said about various things. It’s a learning curve!

Is she signed off sick? What's her reason for sickness? What is her actual job?

Lots of issues here, including discussing one employee with another non-HR person, not providing the discipline policy on request, not notifying the disciplinary hearing in advance, being presented with a document to sign on the spot.

Ultimately, not worth fighting but time to look for a new job. Give as short notice as possible, using any outstanding vacation in the notice period.

It doesn't sound like somewhere I'd like to work. Your daughter is very young and will learn from this, and find somewhere much better.

I’ve told her to keep her head down , take it in the chin and learn from this , but it’s really knocked her, there’s lots of other issues with a supervisor ( recently promoted and it’s gone to her head ) inconsistencies with how the job should be done.

There is a high turn over of staff and they seem to only employ young women.

Dd has an interview next week , so fingers crossed.

In my experience if a recently promoted person is insecure they sometimes express this by finding an individual to victimise.

Being pragmatic and avoiding battles that will be lost is the way to go OP. Good luck for next week.

It’s good to learn how to deal with less than ideal colleagues because she will find one in every workplace, and it’s not always ideal just to keep changing jobs. I know it’s a cliché but our young people really do need to learn some resilience
