Just that, dd1 has her maths gcse resit on Monday(she has dyscalculia so is really strugging) and has developed shingles this week. It's on her buttock and thigh so sitting down is uncomfortable, has a constant headache and is absolutely exhausted, she's being going into sixth form each day(mocks at the end of the month) but is asleep by 5. She's on antivirals but there is no way she will be on form by Monday

I'm going to speak to the exam officer tomorrow but was wondering if anyone else had applied for special consideration and how easy it is easy to get

She's also on crutches as she badly sprained her ankle on the other leg a couple of weeks ago!

Oh my goodness, bless her!
I don't have tons of advice but just make sure you apply before the exam and not after.. as it really does matter.
Good Luckb

Yes, apply, but it is barely worth it. (Speaking as a teacher).

I had an A Level student whose parent died just before their A level exams - special consideration means one extra mark is awarded.

Thanks, just praying her asthma doesn't kick off as well, it normally does when she's run down!

Yes, that is something that would be appropriate for special consideration to be applied for. Don't hold your breathe for it making any difference though even if it is awarded. The maximum that can be given is 5%, and that would be for death of a parent or sibling in the 2 weeks before the exam or something equally serious.

If it is applied for and awarded it would likely only be 1% or 2% at the most.

Tell her she must speak to the exams officer on the day and tell them how the shingles is affecting her on the day. They will then apply for it if she has been affected on the day.

Unfortunately it can not be awarded for something that has affected revision, only something that affects the actual exam.
