Flea in my bed but not pets?

I found a flea in my bed two nights ago and I’m still being bitten. So I assume there are more hiding!

Where can they have come from? I have no pets and we’ve lived here nearly two years with no problems. It’s a terraced house and both neighbours have multiple dogs. Could they have come from them?

Could this be a one or two off flea or am I going to be infested :(

The eggs can survive for years before hatching.
They might have had pets before you and left their offspring behind.
Just buy some spray and go around the house. If you haven't got pets dont worry too much.
It's easily sorted.

Are you sure it was a flea and not a bed bug? Especially if you’re still being bitten and you don’t have pets.

Do you leave your windows open OP? I had a full house infestation because a stray cat came in through the window during summer....I would have been clueless except I saw little muddy footprints on the white blankets on the sofa!

FYI if you do get a full house infestation I paid my council to spray the entire house....still took 2 x sprays and me going round with flea killer every day for a week! I just sweat now in the summer!

Place a few shallow bowls of hot Fairy water around your home . See what you catch!!

Could it be bed bugs? Just seems odd that you have no pets and have only seen a flea in your bed thats all... They do look alike as do the bites.

You can bring fleas into the home on your clothes especially if you have been near a flea infested animal. They hitch a ride on your clothing and get in that way. It’s not really prime flea season right now though, they usually hibernate.

Definitely a flea! It was jumping all over the show until I caught it. I know the previous tenant had dogs so maybe they have lain in wait for this year (sob). I’ve not done anything different this year heating wise so I wonder why they’ve hatched now?

No animals have got in because I’m paranoid about leaving windows open as it is and not been near any animals. I’m wondering if maybe it hitched a ride on someone and I sat close to them and it jumped onto me and rode home?

Can they get through walls from next door?

We had a flea this summer. We have no pets but a lot of neighbourhood cats come into our back yard so I'm sure that's where ours came from.

I would suspect in your case that it's most likely that you have picked them up outside as well.

We have no pets but got fleas in our property from going into neighbours to feed their cats in the summer. They obviously hitched a ride on our legs and clothing! I was not amused. Fortunately they seemed to be restricted to the conservatory. Had to spray the whole house with Indorex and vacuum everything a zillion times. Its supposed to be effective for 9 mths to a year but I won't be surprised if they return next summer .

Vet said Indorex is the only over the counter spray which works and you'll be wasting your money if you use anything else.

DeanImpala67 · 07/11/2019 17:55

I second Indorex, kills everything and lasts up to a year. As a bonus it seems to get spiders too!

Is it your bed or one that was there before ? Fleas can lay dormant for ages then come alive .. they are fuckers to get rid of too!
