Do I get a small or bigger car with DC?

DC is a toddler. I'm getting a new car and wondering if to get something like a Ford Fiesta, Toyota Yaris (5 door) or something bigger like a Crossland X/Mokka by Vauxhall?

Would the bigger options really be that much of an advantage with just one DC? They are higher up, it seems. And look more accessible.

Thank you for any advice!

Do you have any plans for more children? How do you manage getting large items in the car of a Yaris? Why not go mid range and get something like a Vauxhall Astra type size?

Personally I wouldn't go tiny, but if you don't need a large car I would go mid size. Average sized hatchback

We have 2 toddlers and have upgraded from an average hatchback 5 door to a 7 seater and the space it has given us is really good. I know you don't need a 7 seater, but the taller cars are so much easier for getting dc in and out without killing my back and I just feel so much more comfortable.

Something like a mokka or a meriva?

I was fine through the toddler years with a mid-size hatch for 2 DCs. The pram was fine in the boot and the shopping went on top.

They are school age now and I've gone for a MPV for the legroom and boot. I didn't aim to get 7 seats, but it is handy for voluntary activities and sharing lifts. I tend to hold onto cars so I could feasibly be ferrying 6ft teenagers plus their gear off to scout camp and was already beginning to struggle on space as they needed more legroom.

The problem with the 4x4 style cars is that often there's a lot more car exterior for no internal gains. As a short woman, a higher boot is just more inaccessible to me to reach into, and higher to lift children into seats. I was finding that their increased prevelance on the roads just obstructed my view in a traditional lower chassis. My car has a higher seating position which is better for me without a giant bonnet blocking the view for everyone else on the road.

I’d recommend having a look at a Honda Jazz (DH got one as a replacement for his Yaris). It’s like a Tardis car! It seems quite small from the outside, which is handy for parking, but there’s loads of space inside. I’m 5’11 and DH is 6’3 and we have loads of headroom and legroom in the front, and you can still fit adults in the back in comfort as well. The boot is massive too. We’ve got one DD and another on the way and don’t feel the need to change it. (I’d consider swapping it with my car - a Mazda 3 - but I prefer the way mine drives!)
