Gain weight tips

Has anyone got any tips to gain about a stone? My bmi is about 19.7 and have been told yet again im underweight. Ive always been underweight but now its paramount i gain it quickly.

TRIGGER WARNING-MC

I had a miscarriage on sunday. 11 weeks and it was bad. I was blue lighted to hospital hemmoridging badly and lost about 4 pints of blood. Im home now and still bleeding and clotting but scans showed no tissue was left so that was the only positive. My midwife before this said underweight makes me higher risk of miscarriage so i am determined to gain weight and try again as soon as i am healed.

Thanks if anyone read this far. Im looking to gain weight but be healthy vitamin wise too.

Thank you :) yeah i think milkshakes and calorie drinks are the best way forward for me as eating is a real struggle. I gag at the mention of food lately.

Add full fat milk/cream and full fat cheese into things like mashed potato, pasta sauces etc.
Snack on nuts.
Peanut butter on toast as a snack.
Avocado and Halloumi on toast.
Coffee shops do lovely flavoured latte drinks (you could make them yourself at home with full fat milk and flavoured syrup shots).
Hot chocolate with whipped cream and mini marshmallows.

Sorry for your loss OP.

Try to nourish yourself. Cottage pie, chicken soup. 'Cook' meals for one are great as they don't have many additives. Expensive but real food.

By eating proper balanced food you won't need lots of snacks which tend to have lower nutrition.

Really sorry this has caused you to lose your baby.

I have in the past had to help someone gain weight who was skeletally thin and hated eating. The key is to get as many nutritious calories into each bite as you can, so that if you can;t face many bites, you are still starting to feed your body.

Things that worked for us were: wholemeal bread spread with cream cheese, peanut butter and high fruit jam, cut into tiny square sandwiches.

Guacamole dip made with fresh mashed avocado and sour cream, any spices you like, eaten with Italian breadsticks made with olive oil, or with flat breads.

Banana milkshake made with a whole banana, almond milk or full fat milk.

small chunks of chicken , pork fillet, tuna or salmon dipped in buttermilk then panko breadcrumbs with sesame seeds and deep fried, Japanese style.

Do any of these appeal to you?

Do you mean 17.9 rather than 19.7?

My BMI was 17 and 19 in two pregnancies and no one ever told me to gain weight. I miscarried my last pregnancy with a BMI of 18.9 and no one suggested it was linked to my weight.

19.7 is not underweight and isn't linked to miscarriage. Who told you that was causing it?

I mean healthy BMI is 18.5-24.9. Yours is nearly 20 which should be absolutely fine. It is not going to cause a miscarriage.

Well my midwife told me that and wrote it on my notes. Ive always been underweight veering from extremely to only just. Im going by what my midwife told me a week before my baby died. I was reading today my boyfriend drinks way too much which i know and that posibly contributed to it not being compatible with life. Either way one of us has caused our baby to die a week before the 12 week "safe zone". So ideally i want to be as healthy as possible the next time, if there ever is a next time.

To answer an earlier question the dip with breadsticks is a good idea.

Im thinking orange juice buttered toast and cereal for breakfast.

Your midwife wrote in your notes that you had a miscarriage due to your weight? And you're not even an unhealthy weight?

You're not underweight.

No. Neither you nor your boyfriend 'caused your baby to die'. You had an early miscarriage - the vast majority of these, about 95%, are caused by chromosomal abnormality - that means the foetus was never going to be able to develop.

It was not your fault. Even if you were actually underweight, there would be no reason to think that caused the miscarriage - but you're not even underweight. 19.7 is a perfectly OK BMI. Women much thinner than that give birth every day. You do not need to start stuffing yourself with excess calories.

I don't understand why the previous posters are rushing to give you dietary advice rather than actually paying attention to what you are saying.

If your midwife actually wrote on your notes that your weight caused you to miscarry - which I find INCREDIBLY unlikely to believe - then you need to (a) find a different midwife and (b) complain to the hospital. Because it's not true
