Gynaecologist visit wobble

Evening all. I have an appointment tomorrow with the gynaecologist to look at my cervical ectropion. I’ve had ongoing problems for a few years now so am used to going. However, at my last smear when the nurse referred me to see the gynae, I requested to see a female doctor. I feel more comfortable, it’s just my preference. She said it would be fine but the wait would be longer. I was ok with this and got an appointment letter sixteen weeks ago. On Monday I received a last minute letter cancelling my original appointment but making a new one ten minutes after the original time and now with a male doctor. Of course I’m going to go but I’m upset. I was relaxed and not particularly worried but not anymore! I’m annoyed that I’ve waited this long just to have my request dismissed. I’m also annoyed with myself for getting upset about this. Should I complain to the clinic or just leave it?

Complain.

I'd cancel it and complain.

Definitely complain

I’m in quite a bit of discomfort and worried I’ll face another long wait.

I would complain, being as you've waited so long specifically for a female and haven't got one anyway.

They shouldn't be saying you can definitely see a female if it's not the case. Imagine if it's a sexual abuse survivor or likewise, who can't cope with a male doctor. They'd likely end up having to wait even longer for a different appointment...

I think you should go. It will be fine and there will be a female present.
I have experience of this and it has always been fine.

You always have a female nurse in the consulting room so please do not worry.

Remember they deal with many women a day and generally do what what is best for you. If you are uncomfortable with anything they do then speak up. I cannot fault them with my treatment at all. The nurses are brilliant

Thanks for all your replies. I’m definitely going to go but I will speak to the clinic when I get there. I feel a bit pathetic when I talk about it but I had some poor experiences in childbirth with male doctors. I’ve found I’m more relaxed around women. The nurses are lovely aren’t they? I always need a handhold especially when they do the punch biopsy Sad
